  The 1930s were, without a doubt, the height of the classical Hollywood era. It is no accident that 1939 has historically been designated as the pinnacle of Hollywood film history. The era was known for its lavish studio productions, with MGM, RKO, Warner Brothers, Paramount, and 20th Century Fox all operating at the height of their powers. Every major studio possessed a long roster of contract players, with films released at such a rapid pace that it made for an especially competitive environment within the industry. Even while America remained in the throes of the Great Depression, the film industry continued to flourish, and movies easily supplanted the theater as the main attraction for American entertainment. Indeed, it would be no exaggeration to claim that the film industry reached its zenith during the decade precisely because it offered an affordable (if very temporary) escape from the anxieties of the economic woes of the era. 
  The 1930s were also a time in which Hollywood boasted an unprecedented array of famous leading men. Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart, Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, James Stewart, and Fred Astaire were just a handful of the A-list stars of the decade, along with star actresses like Katharine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford. Perhaps it's no surprise that many actors and actresses had romances not just on the screen, but off of it as well, leading to some of the most memorable pop culture stories of the 20th century.

  Detachment A had been established in Berlin early in the Cold War to harass and delay any Soviet military advance west. This Special unit trained relentlessly for every aspect of unconventional warfare, and was later assigned a second mission of counterterrorism. 
   
   
   
  The plan for Operation Eagle Claw, as it became known, was extremely complex. The first stage was intelligence gathering—no mean feat as most of the CIA's capabilities in the country had been eliminated. With operatives trained in intelligence work, fluent in many languages, and adept at blending in, Det A took on the advanced recon of the targets. Then, when Delta Force admitted that it could only manage the assault of the Embassy, Det A volunteered to rescue the three Americans at the Foreign Ministry.

  The American colonies in the mid-18th century were a thriving part of the British Empire, but tensions had been brewing for decades. What began as minor grievances over trade and governance escalated into a full-scale rebellion. British policies, aimed at tightening control over the colonies, ignited widespread dissatisfaction, planting the seeds of revolution. 
  One of the earliest sources of discontent was the British system of taxation. The Sugar Act of 1764 and the Stamp Act of 1765 imposed direct levies on the colonies, enraging merchants, publishers, and legal professionals. The colonists, who had no direct representation in the British Parliament, saw these taxes as a blatant overreach. Their rallying cry—“No taxation without representation”—became a defining slogan of the growing resistance. The Stamp Act’s repeal in 1766 provided temporary relief, but the British government soon followed with new policies, including the Townshend Acts, which further strained relations. 
  The presence of British troops in colonial cities only exacerbated tensions. Stationed to enforce British laws and maintain order, soldiers were often viewed as an occupying force. Clashes between civilians and the military became frequent, culminating in the infamous Boston Massacre of 1770, where British troops fired into a crowd of unarmed colonists, killing five. This event, heavily publicized by Patriot leaders, fueled anti-British sentiment and strengthened calls for defiance.
