Sinossi

"Collectanea Hermetica" is a comprehensive anthology composed of ten volumes that delves into the esoteric traditions rooted in Hermetic philosophy. Westcott meticulously compiles a diverse array of texts, spanning historical, mystical, and theological dimensions, reflecting a literary style that is both erudite and accessible. The volumes offer profound insights into Hermeticism, Gnosticism, and related mystical fields, while also contextualizing these ideas within the broader tapestry of Western esotericism and its influence on modern philosophical thought. As a foundational text, it illuminates the intricate relationships between mysticism, spirituality, and the quest for knowledge. William Wynn Westcott, a prominent figure in the late 19th-century occult revival, was deeply influenced by his background in medicine, which led to an intricate understanding of both science and spirituality. A key player within the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Westcott's passion for esoteric studies and his command of ancient texts fueled his ambition to preserve and disseminate Hermetic wisdom. His scholarly work not only emphasizes historical authenticity but also serves to bridge the gap between ancient knowledge and contemporary spiritual inquiries. "Collectanea Hermetica" is an essential read for anyone intrigued by the mysteries of Hermeticism or the broader landscape of esoteric studies. It offers readers an unparalleled opportunity to engage with the thoughts of past sages, enhancing both personal insight and academic understanding. This anthology serves not only as a reference for scholars but as a transformative journey for seekers of wisdom.

Sacred Drugs explores the numerous ways in which psychoactive substances, from alcohol to psilocybin, cannabis to pharmaceuticals, and coffee to tobacco, intersect with religious life. This cutting-edge volume acknowledges the ubiquity of drug use in American society and that, in fact, being drugged with an altered state of consciousness is a common feature of American life today, as it has been throughout human history and across global ancient cultures. Its focus is on the undeniable and pervasive evidence that drugs are often consumed for religious purposes.
Sacred Drugs touches on the presence of drugs in a number of religious traditions, including Christianity, Hinduism, and Islam. It also delves into the religious textures, sensibilities, and histories of psychoactive agents, sometimes intersecting with these traditions, sometimes with Indigenous cultures around the world, and sometimes not directly related to any particular religion, but instead related to more basic existential religious concerns: a mortal body that suffers, ages, and dies, but also yearns for transcendence, healing, and ecstasy; or the desire to uncover and live true to one's identity, as well as to find energizing communities that bind individuals together; or how to counter chaos, meaninglessness, and disorder. This controversial book will be the go-to volume for readers interested in the complex relationship between religious life and psychoactive substances.

Is your spiritual imagination up to the task of following Jesus's vision for healing our broken world?

"Gradually, very gradually, we saw the great mountain sides and glaciers . . . until far higher in the sky than imagination had dared suggest the white summit of Everest appeared." —George Mallory, 1924 Everest climbing expedition leader

The Jesus Climb crafts George Mallory's quest to climb the world's tallest mountain into a parable illustrating how Jesus trained his first students to summit the world's greatest commandment. Like Mallory peering too low on the horizon to see Everest's peak towering above him, the lack of Christlikeness in modern Christianity stems from our inability to imagine the impossible heights to which Jesus calls us.

The Jesus Climb draws upon the life and teachings of Jesus and the experiences of some of history's greatest spiritual and physical mountaineers to map out eight "expedition camps" through which Jesus guides every student seeking to follow him.

We will never be able to join Jesus in his mission to heal our broken world until he transformed us into the kind of people who can love God and neighbor as he did—the kind of people he called "disciples."

Over the years, I’m sure you’ve heard people say, “there is no way to explain the Trinity of God.” It is a hidden mystery concealed by Him. I strongly disagree.
In 1 Corinthians 2:9–16, we clearly see where wisdom and mystery is spoken among those who are maturing.
Beloved, we cannot say we honor truth while ignoring it. Increasing our knowledge of God does not decrease His mystery or Deity.
There is something quite strange when we say how much God loves us, and yet believe He keeps us at arms length. How can we possibly mature into the fullness of Christ with that type of general understanding?
We can read numerous books about God, hear about Him, watch videos about Him, and yet not experience the reality of His Life in and through us. There is an external force that must be recognized for what it is; it's called passivity, and false comfort is its hammock. Christianity isn't a slothful ticket to heaven. Christ is our blueprint of what Father has purposed for this New Life in Him. He is not only our Savior, but also the INDWELLING ONE. All that He is and all that He does dwells inside of you and I for a purpose far beyond the gifts of the Spirit.
We have been given the possibility to know God beyond measure. The apostle Paul said that he had not yet attained to knowing Christ as he ought, but he pressed on toward that goal (Phil 3:8-14). Beloved, let’s press on to know God as we are known by Him. (1 Cor 13:12)

"As the Father has sent me, so I send you."
Those of us called to Christian ministry are commissioned and sent by Jesus, just as he himself was called and sent by the Father. Thus we naturally pattern our ministries after Christ's example. But distinctively Christian service involves the Spirit as well, just as Jesus himself accomplished his ministry in the power of the Spirit. Thus the whole Trinity--Father, Son and Holy Spirit--gives shape to truly authentic Christian ministry.
Though as Christians we all affirm the doctrine of the Trinity, many of us might struggle to explain how understanding the Trinity could actually shape our ministry. Stephen Seamands demonstrates how a fully orbed theology of the Trinity transforms our perception and practice of vocational ministry. Theological concepts like relationality and perichoresis have direct relevance to pastoral life and work, especially in unfolding a trinitarian approach to relationships, service and mission. A thoroughly trinitarian outlook provides the fuel for our ministry "of Jesus Christ, to the Father, through the Holy Spirit, on behalf of the church and the world."
Essential reading for pastors, parachurch workers, counselors, missionaries, youth ministers and all who are called to any vocation of Christian ministry.
