From Empire to Revolution is the first biography devoted to an in-depth examination of the life and conflicted career of Sir James Wright (1716–1785). Greg Brooking uses Wright's life as a means to better understand the complex struggle for power in both colonial Georgia and the larger British Empire.

James Wright lived a transatlantic life, taking advantage of every imperial opportunity afforded him. He earned numerous important government posts and amassed an incredible fortune. An England-born grandson of Sir Robert Wright, James Wright was raised in Charleston, South Carolina, following his father's appointment as the chief justice of that colony. Young James served South Carolina in a number of capacities, public and ecclesiastical, prior to his admittance to London's famed Gray's Inn to study law. Most notably, he was appointed South Carolina's attorney general and colonial agent to London prior to becoming the governor of Georgia in 1761.

Wright's long imperial career delicately balanced dual loyalties to Crown and colony and offers a new perspective on loyalism and the American Revolution. Through this lens, Greg Brooking connects several important contexts in recent early American and British scholarship, including imperial and Atlantic history, Indigenous borderlands, race and slavery, and popular politics.

Psychological trauma refers to the emotional, mental, and psychological injury that results from an overwhelming or distressing event. Unlike physical trauma, which can often be seen and treated directly, psychological trauma is more subtle, affecting the mind and emotions in profound ways. It can arise from various experiences, such as accidents, violence, abuse, loss, or even long-term stressors. The effects of trauma are far-reaching and can impact an individual’s life for many years, manifesting in different forms depending on the person’s resilience, support system, and coping mechanisms.
At its core, trauma can alter an individual's perception of the world, themselves, and their relationships. It often creates a sense of helplessness, loss of control, and an inability to feel safe or secure. The distress from trauma can be so severe that it leads to lasting mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other emotional disorders. Understanding the nature of psychological trauma involves recognizing how these experiences affect the brain and the body. Trauma is not merely an emotional reaction; it is a complex response involving neurological, biological, and psychological processes. The brain’s response to trauma can involve changes in brain structures and functions, particularly in areas like the amygdala (responsible for processing emotions) and the hippocampus (which processes memories). These changes can result in heightened fear responses, emotional instability, and difficulty processing memories related to the traumatic event.
Furthermore, trauma is often misunderstood or underestimated due to the invisible nature of its impact. While a broken bone is easily visible and can be treated, the effects of trauma are not always immediately apparent.

The Olympian GodsBy Henry M. Tichenor Narrated by Oberon MichaelsHenry Mulford Tichenor (1858 - 1922) was a writer and journalist, who was a very active free thinker in the early Twentieth Century.A special target of Tichenor was organized religion, which he viewed as an absurdly contrived cultural artefact. In The Olympian Gods he applies a critical scalpel to the religion of the ancient Greeks, which he regarded as an obvious precursor to Christianity. Production copyright 2024 Voices of Today

"The Causes of the Rebellion in Ireland Disclosed" is a pamphlet written anonymously that analyzes the causes and motivations behind the 1798 Irish Rebellion against British rule.
The pamphlet argues that the rebellion was not a spontaneous uprising, but rather the result of a combination of factors that had been building up over time. These factors included economic hardship, religious tensions, and a growing sense of Irish nationalism and desire for independence from British rule.
The pamphlet also examines the role of the United Irishmen, a political group that had been working towards Irish independence, and argues that their efforts were instrumental in organizing the rebellion. Additionally, the pamphlet discusses the role of British policies in exacerbating the tensions that led to the rebellion, including the Penal Laws and the suppression of Irish trade.
Overall, "The Causes of the Rebellion in Ireland Disclosed" provides a detailed analysis of the factors that led to the 1798 Irish Rebellion, shedding light on a significant event in Irish history and the ongoing struggle for independence from British rule.
