Sinossi

The Hidden Power of the Elders is a captivating collection of stories from ancient times, each revealing the esoteric wisdom and miraculous abilities of legendary figures from diverse civilizations. Set in the mystic corners of the world, this book takes readers on a journey through 30 different cultures, each centered around an extraordinary elder who harnesses ancient, otherworldly powers. These elders, through their profound knowledge of magic and the esoteric arts, possess abilities that challenge the laws of nature—healing the sick, protecting warriors, turning invisible, summoning storms, and commanding the forces of love, success, and immortality.

From the deserts of Kemet to the mountains of the Andes, these figures perform miraculous feats that transcend time, illustrating the deep connection between humanity, nature, and the divine. Some wield the power of indestructible bodies, others summon rain or fire, while some master the intricacies of invisibility, protection in battle, and the magic of love potions. With each tale, The Hidden Power of the Elders not only celebrates ancient wisdom but also explores the spiritual and mystical bond between humanity and the cosmos.

Through enchanting prose and vivid imagery, readers are introduced to these remarkable figures—Amunet of Kemet, Branok of the Celts, Mei Lian of Ancient China, and many others—each embodying unique gifts and facing great trials. As the story of each elder unfolds, their legacy and teachings echo through time, showing how their miraculous powers continue to influence the world even today.

A book for those who crave ancient wisdom, magic, and stories of supernatural feats, The Hidden Power of the Elders offers a glimpse into the timeless mysteries that shaped our world’s earliest civilizations.

No animal can ask questions about God, but humans can. Dogs may go to a temple or eat the remnants of sanctified food, but their capacity to understand and relish spiritual life is limited. Humans have the rare opportunity in this life to experience the divine gift of God consciousness.
Our beloved teacher and spiritual master His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda explains that this Kṛṣṇa or God consciousness is sublime and everyone can take part in it. The process is simple. Simply by chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare one can experience spiritual bliss. One can chant and dance in ecstasy with this Maha-Mantra, the great chant for deliverance and even a dog can take part in it.
In the spiritual texts of Śrī Caitanya Caritamrta (Adi 10.1-2) it is said:
“Let me repeatedly offer my respectful obeisances unto the beelike devotees who always taste the honey of the lotus feet of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu. If even a doggish non-devotee somehow takes shelter of such devotees, he enjoys the aroma of the lotus flower.”
In the purport it is explained:
“Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s saṅkīrtana movement is so strong that even a doglike non-devotee can gradually become a devotee by the association of a devotee of Lord Caitanya. Śrīla Śivānanda Sena, a great householder devotee of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu, attracted a dog on the street while going to Jagannātha Purī. The dog began to follow him and ultimately went to see Caitanya Mahāprabhu and was liberated. Similarly, cats and dogs in the household of Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura were also liberated. Cats and dogs and other animals are not expected to become devotees, but in the association of a pure devotee they are also delivered.”

In John J. Prendergast's decades of experience as a psychotherapist and spiritual teacher, the area of the body that's most difficult for people to connect with, given our survival fear and trauma, is our physical and energetic ground. This area in the lower belly and at the base of the spine corresponds with the root chakra in the Indian subtle body tradition, the lower dan tien in Taoism, and the hara in Japanese martial arts. While most spiritual traditions focus on opening the mind and the heart, they tend to avoid or undervalue the opening of the ground. Prendergast notes, "It remains largely unconscious and deeply defended."

This guide invites you to take a deep dive into your personal, archetypal, and universal ground, and to see through the false ground of your early conditioning and limited identity. Throughout Your Deepest Ground, Prendergast shares: accessible teachings to help you connect with your ground; sensitive awareness to the trauma we're often holding in this part of our physical and energetic body; sensing and inquiry practices to work with your own body and life; and anecdotes drawn from his teaching that show the power of this work. By consciously opening to our ground, we can experience a felt sense of safety and stability that supports the full flowering of inner peace, freedom, and loving awareness—a truly embodied spirituality.

    Failures of Forgiveness - What...

Philosopher Myisha Cherry teaches us the right ways to deal with wrongdoing in our lives and the world

Sages from Cicero to Oprah have told us that forgiveness requires us to let go of negative emotions and that it has a unique power to heal our wounds. In Failures of Forgiveness, Myisha Cherry argues that these beliefs couldn’t be more wrong—and that the ways we think about and use forgiveness, personally and as a society, can often do more harm than good.
She presents a new and healthier understanding of forgiveness—one that will give us a better chance to recover from wrongdoing and move toward “radical repair.”

Cherry began exploring forgiveness after some relatives of the victims of the mass shooting at Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina, forgave what seemed unforgiveable. She was troubled that many observers appeared to be more inspired by these acts of forgiveness than they were motivated to confront the racial hatred that led to the killings.
That is a big mistake, Cherry argues.

Forgiveness isn’t magic. We can forgive and still be angry, there can be good reasons not to forgive, and forgiving a wrong without tackling its roots solves nothing. Examining how forgiveness can go wrong in families, between friends, at work, and in the media, politics, and beyond, Cherry addresses forgiveness and race, cancelling versus forgiving, self-forgiveness,
and more. She takes the burden of forgiveness off those who have been wronged and offers guidance both tothose deciding whether and how to forgive and those seeking forgiveness.

By showing us how to do forgiveness better, Failures of Forgiveness promises to transform how we deal with wrongdoing in our lives, opening a new path to true healing and reconciliation.
