Stella Benson (6 January 1892 - 7 December 1933) was an English feminist, novelist, poet, and travel writer. She was a recipient of the Benson Medal. - "This is the End" (1917): This is the end, for the moment, of all my thinking, this is my unfinal conclusion. There is no reason in tangible things, and no system in the ordinary ways of the world. Hands were made to grope, and feet to stumble, and the only things you may count on are the unaccountable things. System is a fairy and a dream, you never find system where or when you expect it. There are no reasons except reasons you and I don't know.

In this unabridged recording of one of Mark Twain's lesser-known short stories, the "campaign of crime" referred to was a rash of robberies, arson, racketeering, and murders in Connecticut, where the author was living at that time. Alternatively funny, disturbing, and self-revelatory, an abridged performance of this piece has been part of Richard Henzel's Jefferson Award nominated stage show Mark Twain In Person since 1979, and was later broadcast on public television in a special produced by WTTW-TV in Chicago, winning the Chicago Emmy for Original Adaptation. Narrator Richard Henzel has been performing and interpreting Mark Twain since 1967, and has narrated more than a score of Mark Twain titles for The Mark Twain In Person Audiobook Library.

At the turn of the century, the short story form gained enormous popularity. As readers looked for diversion and entertainment, they found the attraction of a good tale irresistible-especially when the action was packed into a few pages instead of a hundred. Here are three timeless stories that will whisk you into exotic lands and unforgettable adventures. Against the frozen Alaskan landscape of To Build a Fire, a miner struggles to survive the splintering whiteness of sub-zero temperatures. Isle of Voices captures the Hawaii of old, where magic transports a young man to an island of powerful spirits. Rikki-Tikki-Tavi pits a mongoose against a cobra in the steamy beauty of an Indian garden. Recorded Books' award-winning narrators turn these three adventure stories into absorbing audio productions. Listen as their dramatic performances bring out the full richness of far-off lands and breathtaking challenges.
