Sinossi

Rocks and Ridges: 15 Classic Books in Geology is a remarkable anthology that captures the evolution and depth of geological literature. This collection spans a broad range of literary styles, from the meticulous scientific observations found in early geological treatises to more narrative-driven explorations of Earth's physical history. The anthology compiles diverse works that have significantly shaped understanding of geological phenomena, such as the formation of the Earth's crust and the processes governing rock formation. With its inclusion of seminal essays and comprehensive geological surveys, it serves as both an intellectual journey through time and a captivating exploration of Earth's dynamic landscapes. The contributors to this collection, including esteemed figures like William Harmon Norton and Charles Sir Lyell, represent the pinnacles of geological scholarship. This assembly of authors transcends time, stretching from Sir John William Dawson's pioneering 19th-century research to Frederic Brewster Loomis's 20th-century insights. Together, these authors weave a rich tapestry of geological inquiry, reflecting the scientific zeitgeist of their respective eras. The anthology mirrors the progression of geological thought and aligns with the cultural shifts and scientific advancements that accompanied the Industrial Revolution and subsequent technological progress. Rocks and Ridges offers an unparalleled glimpse into the minds shaping geological science, making it an essential read. It provides an extraordinary opportunity for both students and enthusiasts of geology to immerse themselves in the multifaceted discourse of Earth's physical history. The collection’s wealth of insights and perspectives not only educates but also inspires dialogue about the complex processes that govern our planet. This anthology stands as a compelling testament to the enduring fascination and significance of geology in understanding our world's natural wonders.

At more than 100 million user accounts created and over $10 billion made, it is not only the most-subscribed MMORPG in the world, but the highest-grossing video game of all time. Ten years after its launch, Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft is less a game and more a world unto itself, and it's a world Daniel Lisi knows well. More time in his high school years was spent in Azeroth than in his hometown of Irvine, California—a home he happened to share with Blizzard itself.

Now that Lisi has founded his own game development studio, WoW remains his most powerful example of just how immersive and consuming a game can be. Based on research, interviews, and the author's own experience in a hardcore raiding guild, Lisi's book examines WoW's origins, the addictive power of its gameplay loop, the romances WoW has both cemented and shattered, the enabling power of anonymity, and the thrill of conquering BlizzCon with guildmates you've known for years and just met for the first time.

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
In 2023, the Pacific Crest Trail was swallowed by the deepest snowpack in history. Most hikers waited for a better year. Riley laced his boots, hoisted his pack, and walked north. Snowbound is the story of one hiker’s path through 2,650 miles of relentless winter and the even harder terrain within. Battling exhaustion, river crossings, and weeks of silence, Riley confronted not just the weight of snow—but the weight of his past. Each step north was a letting go: of the version of himself shaped by fear, shame, and stories he no longer wanted to believe. From a near fall on Mt. Baden-Powell to the haunting stillness of Forester Pass, from the agony of loneliness to the quiet beauty of Leavenworth, this is a story of reckoning, resolve, and rising again. It’s not just a trail memoir. It’s a story about coming home to yourself—in the most unforgiving year on record.

What if God is very interested in your waste? What if you looked out your window and saw Jesus going through your trash can? Would that surprise you? The greatest illusion of our time comes in the form of waste. From landfills, to micro-trash, to invisible emissions, to imperceivable pollutants, to the factories and shores we never see... it's all hidden away from our sight. However, the harmful effects of this global wastefulness reach far and wide. It's touching the lives of everyone you love, every place you've been, and every single thing you can imagine. What if your faith requires a greater awareness about the things you eat, buy, and throw away? Could it be that your salvation is tied to all of God's creation and that you have the opportunity to join God's work of restoration? While addressing the environmental challenges of our time, Garbage Theology seeks to connect our Biblical call to serve and keep creation with how we live our lives today. Through personal stories extracted from years of working in the trash and recycling industry while pastoring a local church, author Caleb Cray Haynes introduces and examines a theology of consumption and waste through the lens of Scripture and our story as the people of God in the context of our current global environmental crises. Rev. Caleb Cray Haynes is the Director of Nazarenes for Creation Care, the host of The ecoChristian Podcast, and the Community and Creation Pastor at Kaleo Nashville Church. He also is a co-author of Keeping Creation, a 5-week small group study on the Biblical call to tend and serve the earth. He is a Partner with the Evangelical Environmental Network, an Ordained Elder in The Church of the Nazarene, and holds an MA in Theology: Ecology from Nazarene Theological College in Manchester, UK. He resides in Nashville, TN with his wife Emily, and two daughters Story and Daily. More at CalebCrayHaynes.com

Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is the most commonly diagnosed birth abnormality in the US. With great advances in surgery and medicine, however, survival rates have improved by 75% since the 1940s. With better medical care, babies born today with CHD have a good chance of surviving, but throughout their entire lives they can face surgeries, invasive treatments, lifelong monitoring, frequent medical check-ups, and significant limitations on physical activity, in addition to poor public awareness. Much attention has rightly been focused on providing their parents and caretakers with resources and information.

Little attention, however, has been paid to the psychosocial impacts on these individuals, especially as they grow, mature, and become adults living with a serious, chronic medical condition. Prevalence rates for anxiety, depression, and PTSD are significantly higher (2-3x in some cases) for people living with CHD than the general adult population. Liza Morton and Tracy Livecchi are both mental health professionals who have developed a specialty in working with clients who have chronic medical conditions, and they are both themselves living with CHD. While their powerful personal stories are woven into the narrative, the book is focused on providing evidence-based coping and self-care skills for adults living with CHD.
