Sinossi

Andrei Andreiech, a young Russian-English man, finds himself in the company of the three lovely daughters of the Bursanov family. Their father, Nikolai Vasilievich, is a man of potential means, but besides a large house most of his wealth is tied up in a series of non-productive Siberian goldmines. Still, the possibility of future income is enough to keep him afloat, along with his daughters, his lover, his ex-wife, and a whole series of extended family members and hangers-on. Both Nikolai and his retinue seem locked into a holding pattern, their lives unable to progress without some inflection point that never seems to arrive. Futility is William Gerhardie's first novel, published while he was attending Oxford after a stint in the British army. Like his protagonist, he was born and raised in Russia, then joined the English army as an officer, but he was careful to note that "the 'I' of this book is not me." The book was critically acclaimed: both Evelyn Waugh and H. G. Wells championed him, and Edith Wharton wrote a preface for this edition. It has been cited as one of the earliest appearances of a theme that would become recurrent in twentieth century literature: that of "waiting" (a theme made most famous in Beckett's Waiting for Godot ). William Gerhardie (died 1977) was a significant literary figure of the 20th century. Their work has endured across generations and continues to be read and studied worldwide. As a work of classic literary fiction, Futility exemplifies the narrative craft and social insight that defined great storytelling of its era. Literary fiction of this period was characterized by careful attention to character psychology, social milieu, and the moral questions that animated public discourse.

Terror rises from the deep in this gripping maritime horror from the master of early science fiction.
When a retired tea-dealer named Mr. Fison takes a casual afternoon walk along the cliffs of Sidmouth, he expects nothing more than sea breeze and sunshine. Instead, he becomes the first living witness to a new species — a swarm of massive, intelligent, and shockingly aggressive cephalopods known as Haploteuthis ferox. What begins as curiosity quickly spirals into a frantic fight for survival as these tentacled predators crawl out of the surf, hunt along the tide pools, and launch deadly attacks on boats, swimmers, and the unprepared towns along the coast.
Blending scientific speculation with relentless suspense, H. G. Wells delivers a chilling tale of nature unchecked — a reminder that the ocean still holds secrets powerful enough to swallow humanity whole. With vivid performances by narrator Salathiel Reagan, this classic short story comes alive with atmospheric dread and pulse-pounding tension.
Perfect for fans of sea monsters, Victorian horror, and classic speculative fiction.

    "Call me Ishmael."
With those three immortal words, the gates swing open to the greatest maritime adventure ever written. Driven by an unrelenting melancholy, a young drifter named Ishmael takes to the sea, seeking the untamed majesty of the global oceans. But what he finds is a floating purgatory, commanded by a man whose soul is consumed by a single, catastrophic obsession.
In Moby-Dick; or, the Whale, Herman Melville crafts a sprawling, encyclopedic tapestry of nineteenth-century whaling, intertwining gritty high-seas realism with profound philosophical terror. You will brave the frozen wharves of New Bedford, share a room with the tattooed cannibal harpooneer Queequeg, and ultimately set sail aboard the doomed Pequod.
Masterfully narrated by Andre Reaves, this production breathes thundering new life into a literary leviathan. Reaves captures the salt, the spray, and the encroaching madness, pulling listeners straight into the howling gales of the Atlantic and the Pacific. From Father Mapple's fire-and-brimstone sermon to the terrifying mythos of the great white whale himself, this is not just a book to be heard—it is a voyage to be survived.
Are you ready to cast off your lines and face the tempest?
