Sinossi

"A Voyage to the South Sea" is an interesting and thrilling autobiographical account by the Royal Navy Vice-Admiral William Bligh of the naval expedition of HMS Bounty under his command, including the mutiny against him that happened in 1789. In order to win a premium offered by the Royal Society, Bligh first sailed to Tahiti to obtain breadfruit trees, then set course east across the South Pacific for South America and the Cape Horn and eventually to the Caribbean Sea, where breadfruit was wanted for experiments to see whether it would be a successful food crop for African slaves there on British colonial plantations in the West Indies islands. However, The Bounty never reached the Caribbean, as mutiny broke out on board shortly after the ship left Tahiti. The reasons behind the mutiny are still debated. After being set adrift in Bounty's launch by the mutineers, Bligh and his loyal men were forced to start a completely new and an adventurous journey of their own…

From the very beginning, mankind has been fascinated with the world of the occult – the unseen. From the first cave paintings to the Bible, magic can be found everywhere. From secret societies to Victorian occult spiritualists, from influential masters of the black arts to Disney films, Magic holds a spell over us.

    But what is magic?

Magic is not the trickery of a conjurer. True magic is much more. True magic is the focus on the mystical world, the non-material world, the strange and wonderful. True magic explains the inexplicable. It is revelation beyond science and logic. True magic will make you question reality itself. In fact it will show you reality and help you understand that you have been living in a false world all along.

If you seek answers to the big questions of conscious existence then you need to enter the realm of real magic. If you wish to understand the mysteries of the universe, then you need magic.

What if the pursuit of fairness and justice was leading us down a path of unintended harm? In Social Justice Fallacies, the author dismantles the myths and misconceptions that dominate modern social justice narratives, offering a bold, evidence-based critique that will challenge the way you think about fairness, equality, and progress.

This thought-provoking audiobook explores how well-intentioned policies—aimed at correcting historical wrongs and creating equal outcomes—often backfire, perpetuating dependency, resentment, and inefficiency. With clarity and rigor, the author dissects key social justice fallacies, from the misinterpretation of group disparities to the misuse of historical narratives. Through real-world examples and data-driven insights, the book reveals how cultural values, individual choices, and economic principles play a greater role in shaping outcomes than popular narratives suggest.

Tomas O'Crohan was born on the Great Blasket Island in 1865 and died there in 1937, a great master of his native Irish. He shared to the full the perilous life of a primitive community, yet possessed a shrewd and humorous detachment that enabled him to observe and describe the world. His book is a valuable description of a now vanished way of life; his sole purpose in writing it was in his own words, 'to set down the character of the people about me so that some record of us might live after us, for the like of us will never be again'.
The Blasket Islands are three miles off Irelands Dingle Peninsula. Until their evacuation just after the Second World War, the lives of the 150 or so Blasket Islanders had remained unchanged for centuries. A rich oral tradition of story-telling, poetry, and folktales kept alive the legends and history of the islands, and has made their literature famous throughout the world. The 7 Blasket Island books published by OUP contain memoirs and reminiscences from within this literary tradition, evoking a way of life which has now vanished.

Taking the clothes they wore as a starting point, Paul Galvin skilfully weaves together a collection of stories of Irishmen who defined the culture and mood of their time.
In Push, he tells the story of the legendary Walker Brothers – cyclists and soldiers who pedalled through a storm for Ireland at the 1912 Stockholm Games and subsequently served as rebel bike couriers during the 1916 Rising. In Born Mad, discover another side to Samuel Beckett – sartor and prolific sportsman who had knockout power as a champion school's boxer. In Boland, we learn about Harry Boland's background as a trained tailor, and in Jack, we encounter Jack B. Yeats at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris.
These are just some of men who have inspired Paul's own fashion collections and whom he writes about here in a fascinating collection that shines a light on how history is woven into the clothes Irishmen wear.

A master of documentary poetry, Erika Meitner takes up the question of desire and intimacy in her latest collection of poems. In her previous five collections of poetry, Erika Meitner has established herself as one of America’s most incisive observers, cherished for her remarkable ability to temper catastrophe with tenderness. In her newest collection Useful Junk, Meitner considers what it means to be a sexual being in a world that sees women as invisible—as mothers, customers, passengers, worshippers, wives. These poems render our changing bodies as real and alive, shaped by the sense memories of long-lost lovers and the still thrilling touch of a spouse after years of parenthood, affirming that we are made of every intimate moment we have ever had. Letter poems to a younger poet interspersed throughout the collection question desire itself and how new technologies—Uber, sexting, Instagram—are reframing self-image and shifting the ratios of risk and reward in erotic encounters. With dauntless vulnerability, Meitner travels a world of strip malls, supermarkets, and subway platforms, remaining porous and open to the world, always returning to the intimacies rooted deep within the self as a shout against the dying earth. Boldly affirming that pleasure is a vital form of knowledge, Useful Junk reminds us that our selves are made real and beautiful by our embodied experiences and that our desire is what keeps us alive.
