Synopsis

Claude Wheeler craves excitement, far more than he can ever find as a farmer's son. He encounters more at university, where the modern world beyond farm life offers new thrills and challenges, only to lose them as the farm calls him back. World War I offers him even more . . . but he may crave excitement more than life itself can allow. Wanting it as much as he does can't protect him from the consequences of personal bravado in an age of killing machines.

In Tome, a small, seemingly sleepy New Mexico hamlet, Sofia and her four fated daughters reveal a world of marvels where the comic and horrific, past and present, real and fantastic coexist and collide. Over two crowded decades, Sofia tries to hold things together following the disappearance of her husband, Domingo, he of the Clark Gable mustache and the uncontrollable gambling habit. Adventurous Esperanza, Chicana campus radical turned television news reporter, travels farthest from home only to be reeled back in spirit. Beautiful Caridad, a nurse who dulls the pain of being jilted with nightly bouts of alcohol and anonymous sex, finally finds love again?and a sharp drop off a tall cliff. Practical Fe, dutiful bank worker who wishes more than anything for stability, lets out a year-long primal scream upon being dumped by her fiancé. And mysterious La Loca, dies (maybe?) and is resurrected at age three, leaving her both attuned to higher spiritual frequencies and allergic to human touch. Exuberant and powerful, funny and profound, So Far from God is “a hymn to the endurance of women, both physical and spiritual” (Washington Post Book World).

He returned to rekindle old friendships and rebuild alliances… but found only ghosts.
Joshua Ragland—the battle-hardened drifter who once helped Bakerstown survive its darkest hours—returns to find the gates smashed, the streets empty, and his friends gone. No bodies. No signs of battle. Just an eerie silence where a thriving community once stood. In Marly’s abandoned office, he finds her diary—and the terrible truth.
They called themselves Marshalls of the Eastern Provisional Authority. They wore clean uniforms, carried military-grade weapons, and spoke of order and unity. But their leader, a cold-eyed man named Nash, hadn’t come to protect Bakerstown.
He came to subdue it. First, they seized the weapons. Then they imposed a curfew. Then they started making examples.
The diary’s final entries tell of desperate midnight evacuations through storm drains, of townsfolk hiding in the limestone caves of Franklin Ridge. Of executions in the town square and forced relocations to a place called Harrisburg.
Now Ragland faces an impossible choice: turn back and keep drifting and maybe return to The Cities—or find the survivors and confront the rising power in Harrisburg.
For a man like Ragland, it’s not really a choice at all...
Don’t miss the thrilling fourteenth installment of the America Falls saga and the first volume of the America Rising Sequence—where new alliances are forged, old friends reunite, and one man rides straight into the heart of a new tyranny.

The year is 2048, and Anders Helmemyr has just started studying computer science in Uppsala, Sweden. Amidst political activism, a complicated love life, and the thrills of student nightlife, he meets Niklas, a computer genius who began his Ph.D. in artificial intelligence at the age of 18.
Niklas has a secret: he’s conducting illegal research on a home-built neurosimulator, trying to create an artificial consciousness – a program that thinks and feels like humans do. Anders is drawn into the project, and together they develop Niklas’ brainchild, Leo. However, neither of them knows just what the repercussions for their creation will be. Politics, and life as they know it, are about to change for all time.
