Sinossi

The Heart of Mid-Lothian by Walter Scott is the seventh of Sir Walter Scott's Waverley Novels. It was originally published in four volumes on 25 July 1818, under the title of Tales of My Landlord, 2nd series, and the author was given as "Jedediah Cleishbotham, Schoolmaster and Parish-clerk of Gandercleugh".

The main action, which takes place between September 1736 and May 1737, is set in motion by the Porteous Riots in Edinburgh and involves an epic journey from Edinburgh to London by a working-class girl to obtain a royal commutation of the death penalty incurred by her sister for the alleged murder of her new-born baby. Despite some negative contemporary reviews, some now consider it Scott's best novel.

The title of the book refers to the Old Tolbooth prison in Edinburgh, Scotland, at the time in the heart of the Scottish county of Midlothian. The historical backdrop was the event known as the Porteous riots. In 1736, a riot broke out in Edinburgh over the execution of two smugglers.

The Captain of the City Guards, Captain John Porteous, ordered the soldiers to fire into the crowd, killing several people. Porteous was later killed by a lynch mob who stormed the Old Tolbooth.

From Robin Gow, the award–winning author of Dear Mothman, comes a gripping middle–grade novel in verse about a boy who digs up and loses control of a saber-toothed tiger
Jasper’s favorite person is his older brother, Callan. They go on fossil–finding missions and stay up late while their parents work nights. Callan even helped Jasper pick out his new name when he came out as trans.
But Callan starts to grow distant and leaves for college without taking Jasper on a promised fossil dig. Jasper feels abandoned—and angry. Who needs Callan? He will dig by himself, in his backyard. As he digs, he hears a voice: the bones of a saber–toothed tiger. He’s buried deep, and he wants Jasper to DIG.
Jasper is sure a discovery like this could change the world, or at least get Callan to text him back. But as the saber-toothed tiger finds freedom, Jasper realizes he may have unleashed a monster that no one was ready for, and that anger can empower you—or destroy you.

Some places do not simply threaten the body — they endanger the self. In Time Trap, a seasoned spacefarer stumbles into a region where time fractures, identity multiplies, and existence itself becomes unstable. What begins as a routine exploration turns into a deeply personal reckoning, as past, present, and future collide in ways no human mind was ever meant to endure.
This is not a story of speed or spectacle, but of dread that unfolds slowly and inexorably. The danger is not only an alien intelligence lurking beyond comprehension, but the terrifying realization that a man can be unmade piece by piece, stretched across moments that refuse to stay in order. Each decision carries consequences that echo forward and backward, forcing one final choice that defines whether a life remains whole or dissolves into fragments.
Frank Belknap Long brings a masterful blend of science fiction and cosmic unease to this unforgettable tale. Best known for his contributions to weird fiction and his association with the Lovecraft circle, Long excelled at stories where the unknown feels intimate, psychological, and profoundly unsettling. Time Trap stands as a perfect example of his ability to turn speculative ideas into deeply human horror — a story that lingers long after the final word.
