Synopsis

A Wonderful World! You cannot tell the particular broomstick that will kill a fly neither can you know the food that is sweet by merely looking at it. You cannot judge people by their present situation in life as long as they are still breathing. But like many people, this is the fundamental mistake that Mr Giwa Smart, Utaina Ekugbe's teacher, makes in this story. He makes Utaina feel as if he is less than a human being. But in truth, no parent can be proud of Utaina's achievements. Even Utaina is ashamed of himself. But then, fate enters into the situation. In spite of Utaina’s miserable situations and Mr Giwa Smart's evil character, how they can both agree that this indeed is a wonderful world at the end of this story, which is full of shocking twists and adventure, is simply incredible! This story, which is about the transitional life and self-discovery of Utaina as he goes through his own share of challenges in life, also highlights the Okpameri culture and history in an exciting way.

What Is Man?, published by Mark Twain in 1906, is a dialogue between a young man and an older man jaded to the world. It involves ideas of destiny and free will, as well as of psychological egoism. The Old Man asserted that the human being is merely a machine, and nothing more. The Young Man objects, and asks him to go into particulars and furnish his reasons for his position. This collection of short stories covers a wide range of Twain's interests: the serious, the political and the ironically humorous. (Summary by Wikipedia and John Greenman)

Exorcist Msgr. Stephen Rossetti has a very active caseload of demonic possessions, and in each case two vivid lessons consistently emerge: demons possess or harass people in a myriad of ways (even when they do not enter a body), and they are defeated decisively by the power of Christ and His Church—and especially by invocations to the Blessed Mother.
In these pages, Msgr. Rossetti gives us an inside look at the intense experiences of an exorcist. He shares, without hype or varnish, what it is like, on a daily basis, to face demons who revile, threaten, and sometimes spiritually “wound” him. He describes the healing power of Christ for the possessed and for the exorcist, and reveals amazing moments when Christ and His Church visibly triumph over Satan. The reader is afforded a unique glimpse into the world of angels and demons, and the struggles of the possessed and those who minister to them. In this stunning, edifying, true diary of an American exorcist, you'll learn:What demonic possession is, and is notCommon tactics of Satan and his typical liesHow God protects exorcistsThe difference between strong and weak possessionsThe hierarchy of demons (not all are equal)What it's like for an exorcist to face Lucifer himselfWhy demons choke peopleHow demons fear and hate one another too

What do we expect of an author who is unapologetically female? What do we expect of consuming art in general? Should a work be easy, should a work be safe?

Marylyn Tan’s debut volume, GAZE BACK, complicates ideas of femininity, queerness, and the occult. The feminine grotesque subverts the restrictions placed upon the feminine body to be attractive and its subjection to notions of the ideal. The occultic counterpoint to organised religion, then, becomes a way toward techniques of empowering the marginalised.

GAZE BACK, ultimately, is an instruction book, a grimoire, a call to insurrection—to wrest power back from the social structures that serve to restrict, control and distribute it amongst those few privileged above the disenfranchised.
