~~~~~ Excerpt ~~~~~
We got into my parents' house at about two in the afternoon. It was overcast and the few shafts of sunlight sunk into the parlor like they were looking for us. Tom parked his motorcycle on the street and I took him up the front walk.
As soon as the door was closed behind him he set his bag down by the staircase and looked at me.
“Are you ready?” he said.
I was still in my gym clothes: bright orange T, black sports bra underneath, skin tight black yoga pants, and sneakers. My hair was a mess, especially after the motorcycle and his helmet, and I was sweaty. “I'm just going to take a shower. You can grab a drink or…”
He shook his head. “I want you like this.”
“What?”
“I'll ask you once more and then that's it.” He watched me, with those eyes of his, always watching. It was different from being checked out, different from the loving way Bobby looked at me. Tom was taking me in, everything. Measuring me.
My heart started to thud in my chest even harder. The whole way here I'd gone back and forth thinking this wasn't a big deal, that it was a big deal. I hadn't even asked if he'd brought condoms. He wanted me now? Like this?
“Where?” I said.
He surveyed the room. “Here. Are your parents coming home?”
“Not for a few hours.” I swallowed. “Do you have condoms?”
He nodded.
“Let me see them.”
He pulled a packet of them from his gym bag.
I drew my fingers over my temples and swept my hair back from my cheeks and forehead. “I smell like sweat,” I said.
“You smell like you.”
“Okay, whatever.” He waited. Finally I blinked hard and threw up my hands. “Okay, yes, yes, what do I - what do you want me to do?”
He breathed deeply. He seemed so absolutely calm. I was bewildered. I was scared. My body was buzzing, not because of him but because it knew what might be coming, and his motorcycle had just set me to active. Tom glanced at the table and the mirror and the drawer inside. “Is there a hairbrush in the drawer?”
“Yes,” I said.
He stepped forward. He came forward, to me, until he was right up against me. He looked down at me, into my eyes, and the skin of my forehead. He reached his fingers to me and drew them through my hair. “That was the last time I asked. I won't ask again. If you want to stop you have to tell me no.”
“Okay,” I said. I wasn't sure if I could breathe.
He stepped back. “I want you to take your clothes off. I want you to go over to the table and I want you to brush your hair.”
I reached down and pulled off my socks.
I hesitated when I crossed my arms but then I had the shirt off. I was now just in my sports bra and my yoga pants. The last person to see me naked was Allison. The last person who I'd slept with was Bobby. And Tom was watching me. He'd paid me, so I hooked my fingers into my waistband and pulled them down.
I was in my g-string and my sports bra, and I could see that Tom liked it.
    A sacred volume, a forgotten ritual, and the lingering presence of something not entirely gone—The Uncommon Prayer-book whispers of devotion turned to dread.
    M. R. James crafts a world where piety and peril overlap, where quiet study leads not to understanding, but to unease. This tale moves with the hush of cloisters and the rustle of ancient pages, all the while drawing the listener ever closer to an encounter best left unwritten.
    Dark, refined, and utterly disquieting.
    Step into a world where passion is poetry, and every touch tells a story. Velvet Heat is not just a collection of erotic tales — it’s an experience of emotion, sensuality, and connection woven together in breathtaking moments of desire.
    Within these pages, love and lust intertwine in ways that feel both daring and deeply human. Each story unfolds like a slow-burning fire — intimate, beautiful, and filled with tension that builds until it consumes everything in its path. From exotic escapes to unexpected encounters, every scene draws you closer to the heartbeat of passion itself.
    T. Summerville captures more than just physical attraction — he captures the art of longing. The glances that last a little too long. The electricity in the silence between two souls. The unspoken connection that pulls people together even when the world says they shouldn’t.
    Every page invites you to feel — to surrender to emotion, to curiosity, and to the thrill of what happens when we let go of inhibition and follow the call of desire.
    Whether you’re drawn to the romantic, the daring, or the beautifully raw, Velvet Heat will remind you of one truth that burns brighter than all others:
    Passion is not found — it’s awakened.
    Ever since Kit Mathison took control of the modest estate he inherited, he’s had nothing but setbacks. When the roof of his house caves in and makes the place unlivable, he’s frustrated but not surprised. How much will this disaster cost? Where will he stay while repairs are made?
    Sylvie Devereaux has remained in her childhood home to help her aging grandparents with their farm, only to realize they need as much care as the crops and livestock. But while love and laughter are prominent in their home, money is not. And the never-ending rain is drowning their wheat along with any hope they have for financial recovery.
    When Kit returns Sylvie’s wayward goose, they re-ignite the friendship they’d kindled as adolescents and put a plan into action to relieve each others’ burdens: Kit will board with the Devereaux family while his home is repaired, providing money and labor in exchange for their hospitality. But when Kit proposes a marriage of convenience to make the arrangement permanent, Sylvie balks. She has always wanted to marry for love, and they don’t love each other...do they?
    This short (~2 hour listen) novel is a sweet, kisses-only/closed door Regency romance with a happily ever after, no cliffhangers, and is part of a series that can be read in any order.
    Gulliver’s Travels meets The Underground Railroad: a road trip through the countryside – and the psyche – by the author of Fifteen Dogs.
    Longlisted for the 2019 Giller Prize
    Botanist Alfred Homer, ever hopeful and constantly surprised, is invited on a road trip by his parents’ friend, Professor Morgan Bruno, who wants company as he tries to unearth the story of the mysterious poet John Skennen. But this is no ordinary road trip. Alfred and the Professor encounter towns where Black residents speak only in sign language and towns that hold Indigenous Parades; it is a land of house burnings, werewolves, and witches.
    Complete with Alfred’s drawings of plants both real and implausible, Days by Moonlight is a Dantesque journey taken during the “hour of the wolf,” that time of day when the sun is setting and the traveller can’t tell the difference between dog and wolf. And it asks that perpetual question: how do we know the things we know are real, and what is real anyway?
