Learn to scuba alongside Alycea, a claustrophobic bubble watcher determined to overcome her anxiety and explore the reefs.
After a failed scuba class triggered her panic, Alycea swore never to try diving again. But when her husband fell in love with the sport, she faced a decision: overcome the fear or accept her fate as a bubble watcher.
Alycea clung to her identity as a free-spirited explorer as she struggled to master the mechanics of diving. Her focus on self-reliance blocked her from trusting her dive buddy and this conflict extended beyond diving. Was she harming her marriage with her inability to rely on others?
In lyrical prose, this journey is fraught with panic, humor, and dogged determination. From the coral reefs of Florida to the muck sites of Indonesia, you'll revel in the beautiful scenery and triumph in overcoming fear so you can live the life you choose.
This memoir will have you cheering for small successes and reflecting on what it means to trust your partner.

Lots of people take a walk to clear their heads, but have you ever walked over six hundred miles to do it?On a misty, gray morning in the summer of 2018, Gordon Bernhardt set out from a small town in the French Pyrenees to walk the ancient pilgrim route of Camino de Santiago, seeking clarity for his business, his relationships, and his priorities in life. The lessons he learned as a peregrino—a pilgrim—ranged from insights on financial advising and investing to the importance of noticing the tiniest details of each day: like the ant trails winding across the path at his feet or the “smiling sunflower” that lightened his steps in the middle of a hot summer day.An investing book like no other, Buen Camino: What a Hike through Spain Taught Me about Investing and Life will remind you that although we’re all walking a different path, we’re all headed for a common destination.

Did you know that Viking-age Swedes were the founding dynasty of what eventually became Russia?
In contrast to their Danish and Norwegian cousins, Swedish Vikings traveled east rather than west in search of riches, land, and power. The extensive river systems of Russia provided economic and military “super-highways” to the adventurers from the north, who journeyed down them all the way to the Black Sea and Constantinople in search of fame and riches.
The rise in TV shows and movies has renewed the people’s interest in Vikings, but the Swedish Vikings have been notably absent from these accounts. In Captivating History’s History of Sweden, you will learn more about these Swedish adventurers, along with other parts of Sweden’s fascinating history.
In this audiobook, you will discover:The Swedes’ fierce struggle to gain independenceThe “Father of Sweden,” King Gustav Vasa and his dynasty that spawned some of the greatest military minds in EuropeHow the Swedish Empire achieved success and expanded as far as North AmericaSweden’s revolutionary war tactics and how that led to victories on the battlefieldWhy Sweden adopted its famous policy of neutralityThe hero Raoul Wallenberg and his role in WWIIAnd much more!

It was supposed to be a normal city break . . . . . . it ended in the strangest places in the world. They shouldn't have tear gassed bestselling (bald) author Adam Fletcher. It ruined his supposedly normal holiday in Istanbul, made him curious, and began a quest to visit places everyone else is trying to escape from, and tourists don't normally go to.In this hilarious travel memoir, he'll enter a blizzard in China armed with only biscuits; pose as a scientist to sneak into Chernobyl; be chased by Croatian police boats en route to Liberland (the world's newest country); stalk the Sheriff of Transnistria (its most corrupt); become a reluctant diving board star in a North Korean water park, and much more.Accompanied by his eccentric German girlfriend, Annett, this adventure to ten unusual destinations will also put their sanity, safety and relationship in jeopardy.Packed full of interesting people (including the Devil incarnate and someone having their mind remotely controlled), weird locations, and British humor, Don't Go There takes you on an unforgettable journey with an award-winning travel writer.

Beside me, on the stone steps of this quiet courtyard, there is a lame man – the sweeper. He is so thin that the end of his belt comes back around to its buckle. He’s trying to feed a puppy the rest of his lunch. He reminds me that we all need something to need us, and that maybe that’s why we Westerners, who are so independent, mostly fail to understand family in this way, and need to come up with things like ‘quality time’ to justify such a base need. Everyone here asks if my family is in Sri Lanka, if that’s why I’ve come here. When I say no, they’re back in Canada, this confuses them. It’s a black mark against me. Why would I leave them? I am a selfish person. (I am.)

The Portuguese word saudade has no direct English translation. In its simplest sense, it describes a feeling of longing for something that is now gone, and may yet return, but in all likelihood can never be recaptured. In Saudade, traveller Anik See traces her attempts to reclaim this loss in a series of informal essays that take us from the salt plains of Wood Buffalo National Park and the mountains of British Columbia to the fishing ports of Sri Lanka and the rough roads of Tbilisi, Georgia.

Whether at a fishfry in the Northwest Territories, at the post-9/11 Canada-US border, on the ultimate road trip through Australia or at a summer carnival in Santiago de Cuba, See is on a continual quest for simplicity, interrogating the perceived distance between privilege and want. Quietly, insistently, these thoughtful essays ask what we might accomplish if we said no to entitlement; if, instead, we used our privilege to help us better understand human nature. Throughout this psychogeographic diary, crowded with rituals of faith, death and renewal, See asks, again and again, 'How much will be enough?'

    Praise for Saudade:

'Anik See's Saudade is often disturbingly brilliant. It reassures me that much of our experience of the world is still undescribed. Saudade is fresh and utterly original.' – Jim Harrison

'See's meditations on loss, technology, design, and borders are like long-exposure photographs: richly textured, dreamy, observant of even the slightest movement.'
