Sinossi

The Makers of Canada is a compelling anthology that traces the multifaceted history of Canada's development through the lens of its key figures and cultural movements. This collection, featuring diverse contributions from renowned historians and scholars, employs a variety of literary styles including narrative essays, biographical sketches, and critical analyses. Each piece intricately weaves together personal stories with national historical events, situating individual contributions within broader contexts of political, social, and cultural evolution. The anthology essentially serves as both a tribute to and an examination of the figures who shaped the Canadian identity, addressing themes of colonization, immigration, and nation-building while highlighting the evolving narratives of a multifarious society. The authors involved in The Makers of Canada come from a rich tradition of Canadian historiography, inspired by the complex tapestry of Canadian experiences. With backgrounds steeped in academia and a passion for uncovering the narratives of marginalized voices, these scholars aim to provide a panoramic understanding of Canada'Äôs past. Their collective efforts reflect a commitment to recognizing both celebrated leaders and unsung heroes, emphasizing that the Canadian narrative is inclusive and diverse. I highly recommend The Makers of Canada to anyone interested in understanding the intricate threads of Canadian history. This anthology not only educates readers about pivotal moments and influential figures but also challenges them to contemplate the broader implications of identity and belonging within a modern Canada. Engaging and insightful, it is an essential read for scholars, students, and casual readers alike.

Born Vincent Capuccio on December 3, 1955, Vinnie Stigma—as his countless friends and fans lovingly refer to him—is the founder and guitarist of New York City's legendary hardcore band Agnostic Front. He's also one of the Big Apple's earliest punk rockers, having frequented such eclectic downtown haunts as Max's Kansas City, The Electric Circus, and of course, CBGB while it was still known as Hilly's on the Bowery during the early 1970s.

The Most Interesting Man in the World stretches from Vinnie's upbringing in Little Italy amongst the tight-knit Italian families, as well as some prominent wiseguys, to teaming up with Cuban-born vocalist Roger Miret to carry punk's angrier successor across the globe; from no-show jobs in his youth obtained by people who "protected" him, to lighting up some of the world's biggest stages. However, Vinnie Stigma is not your run-of-the-mill rocker of many decades. He has dabbled in cooking, professional wrestling, acting, martial arts, yoga, and other creative disciplines. He is a father and a cancer survivor who helped pioneer skinhead and tattoo culture in America, and has mentored hundreds of fledgling musicians and artists.

The Most Interesting Man in the World is a journey through a life unlike any other. No one sees or experiences the world quite like Vinnie Stigma.

In the winter of 1984, Sharon Nicorvo was violently raped while delivering pizza to Fort Monmouth Army Base in New Jersey. At the same time, her seven-year-old son Jay was being subjected to repeated and secret sexual abuse by his babysitter. Best Copy Available delves into these devastating events and their long aftermath. Thirty years later, Nicorvo receives a photocopy of the criminal investigation report documenting that brutal night. This report offers a primer to better understand certain assumptions about class and race; sex and violence; crime and punishment; low and high culture; sanity, madness, and masculinity; and the facsimile nature of the truth. As various American men―some real, some imagined, all prone to violence―move in and then out of their hardscrabble lives, mother and son spend decades avoiding and ultimately confronting what happened to them in that formative year. Most ambitiously, Best Copy Available lends voice to an alternative version of American boyhood, manhood, and fatherhood. One where the sons of deadbeat dads can grow up to be stay-at-home dads, and where our boys and men may realize that the most courageous show of strength is not the determined use of force. It's knowing when and how to ask for help.

UNTOLD STORY OF THE PANTHER’S PARTY is the story of Lawrence Hayes & Cornelius Butler, and one of the best Black Panther stories ever told. A side you had never seen before. Black Panthers, apart from empowering the Black people, also dealt with the drug problem in the community. They took it on themselves to stop the drug trade. However, life is rarely that smooth. A few choices by Lawrence and Cornelius led to consequences. The book is a tell-all account of it all based on true events; nothing is left hidden. This is American history, the one you will never read anywhere else. The history that needs to be told.
