Sinossi

Inspired by Art: The Edge of Revolt is a collection of art throughout the ages, around the story of David. This volume focuses on the rape of his daughter Tamar by her half-brother Amnon; the assassination of Amnon at the hands of her brother Absalom; and Absalom’s revolt, trying to topple David from his throne.
These amazing sculptures, paintings, etchings, and manuscripts inspired the author to write The David Chronicles, a series of three volumes, the second of which is A Peek at Bathsheba, where she imagines the love affair and the ensuing scandal. Besides being an artist and having worked as an architect, she taught art history, and this collection served as the basis for a study course analyzing the contrasts in viewpoints around the biblical story.
This collection is arranged not by artist, nor by artistic style or era, but rather by the story moment-by-moment, blow-by-blow, as imagined by various artists. Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Chagall, Frederic Lord Leighton and Jan Steen to name but a few.
Disponibile da: 06/02/2017.

The things a person does and the places he visits in search of himself…Attempts to find peace of mind, harmony and tranquility push a wanderer to pursue answers in foreign countries, in impassable jungles or places popular for pilgrims, rush off to doubtful relations, make a multimillion fortune or just stuff himself with various mind-altering substances. And only having realized once that you just need to remember, because you have known all the answers for a long time. You just need to turn the “key to all doors”, which is always inside you.In the age of mosaic thinking, overconsumption and digital enslavement, it is quite difficult for most people to accept the idea that in order to be in time, you need…to stop. Yes, yes, just to stop, close your eyes, take a deep breath, exhale, then again, and again, and again… And then your mind will be touched by revelations unknown to you until now. But between today’s you and a divine being you are meant to be, an abyss as large as Grand Canyon and as deep as Mariana Trench gapes. The fear of disappearing in one of visionary worlds stops you even from a try to make a step forward to close this gap. Disbelief, casual attitude and indifference towards yourself are just a few guardians of the humankind on the way toward awareness, regardless of the fact that it has been talked about so much recently. You can ignore the widespread tendency for emanation of eastern world perception beyond the bounds of historical territories of India, Cambodia and other spiritually uplifting countries, see another hype and fashion influence in it for as long as you want, or you can act otherwise.

    Imperfect Leadership - A book...

In Imperfect Leadership: A book for leaders who know they don't know it all, Steve Munby eloquently reflects upon and describes a leadership approach that is strong on self-awareness and positive about the importance of asking for help.
    Foreword by Michael Fullan.
When asked to describe his own leadership style, Steve  uses the word 'imperfect' . This is not something he apologises for; he feels imperfect leadership should be celebrated. Too often we are given examples of leaders who are put on some kind of pedestal, lauded as superheroes who have it all worked out and are so good at what they do that nobody else can come close.
This book is the antidote to that flawed perception.
Imperfect Leadership is an honest reflection upon leadership. It is about Steve's journey, covering his highs and lows and, ultimately, how he learned to refine and improve his leadership. It is about messy, trial-and-error, butterflies-in-the-stomach leadership and about thoughtful and invitational leadership - and the positive impact it can have.
At the heart of the book are edited highlights of the 12 keynote  speeches delivered to increasingly large audiences of school leaders between 2005 and 2017. These speeches, delivered at the Seizing Success and Inspiring Leadership conferences, form the structure around which Steve's story and insights are wrapped.
Steve's account covers some fundamental shifts in the English education system over this 12-year period and describes how school leaders altered their leadership as this context changed. Furthermore, it delves into how his own leadership developed as his personal context changed, and explores how the notion that a leader needs to be good at all aspects of leadership is not only unrealistic, but is also bad for the mental and physical health of leaders and will do nothing to attract new people into leadership positions.
Ultimately, Steve hopes that as you read this book you will see the value of imperfect leadership and of the positive impact it can make. For those reading it who have yet to step up into leadership, his sincere wish is that it will encourage and empower aspirational leaders rather than discourage them.
Suitable for all those in or aspiring to leadership positions in education.

    White by Law 10th Anniversary...

“Remains the definitive work on how American law constructed a ‘white’ race at the turn of the twentieth century . . . A must-read.” —Mae M. Ngai, author of Impossible Subjects: Illegal Aliens and the Making of Modern America   The first book to fully explore the social and specifically legal construction of race, White by Law inspired a generation of critical race theorists and others interested in the intersection of race and law in American society. Today, it is used and cited widely by not only legal scholars but many others interested in race, ethnicity, culture, politics, gender, and similar socially fabricated facets of American society.   In the first edition, Ian Haney López traced the reasoning employed by the courts in their efforts to justify the whiteness of some and the non-whiteness of others, and revealed the criteria that were used, often arbitrarily, to determine whiteness, and thus citizenship: skin color, facial features, national origin, language, culture, ancestry, scientific opinion, and, most importantly, popular opinion.   Ten years after the book’s publication, Haney López revisits the legal construction of race, and argues that current race law has spawned a troubling racial ideology that perpetuates inequality under a new guise: colorblind white dominance. In a new essay written specifically for the 10th anniversary edition, he explores this racial paradigm and explains how it contributes to a system of white racial privilege socially and legally defended by restrictive definitions of what counts as race and as racism, and what doesn't, in the eyes of the law. The book also includes a new preface, in which Haney Lopez considers how his own personal experiences with white racial privilege helped engender White by Law.   “A fine contribution to important debates.”—The American Journal of Legal History
