Every life has its defining moment, an experience that changes everything. For three Irish military veterans - John, Ger and Kevin - that moment continues to echo through their lives. An explosion. A vow. A chance decision. Now each must live with the fallout from his actions. There is no going back and no rewriting the past. But there is another decision to make, and there is a prayer to pray. A man can set a different course and continue his life with a fresh purpose. Anyone who has served will recognize these stories of heartache and happiness, troubles and blessings. In About Face, three extraordinary veterans share their experiences and offer us something more: an invitation to take the next step, encouragement to look for the next defining moment.

For more than fifty years, Bette Midler has been at the center of the entertainment world as a uniquely talented singer, actress, and comedienne. Starting in the unlikely venue of a gay bathhouse in New York City--where she developed her Divine Miss M persona--this book takes a deep dive into her successes, from movies to million-selling records, from sell-out concert tours to her memorable farewell to Johnny Carson as his last guest on The Tonight Show.

On Bette Midler features performance analysis and deeply researched background information, all of it supporting informed--and divinely opinionated--consideration of Midler the artist. It judges her work by the highest standards: those she established for herself.

Scientists are only interested in facts. Short story writers are only interested in fiction and how it can change one set of circumstances to another. Experiments in words may be common to both but when the scientist is our protagonist the journey can suddenly become quite disturbing.

Join H P Lovecraft, Arthur Conan Doyle, Nathaniel Hawthorne and many others as they put scientists into the driving seat of stories that often have surprising outcomes.

Annie Rose Charlotte Key was born on 9th November 1859 in Kensington, London.

With a privileged background—her father was an admiral, her mother a Lady, Rose began her creative life as a painter before a stab at writing local history settled her into popular fiction.

Her works were solidly written and often described as having a ‘certain graceful facility’.

Her marriage to Philip Augustus Champion de Crespigny in 1878 resulted in a family of 4 children and a name of status.

Rose was a leading member of the Ridley Art Club, the Lyceum Club in Piccadilly, and of the British College of Psychic Science. Victorian society had a particular fascination with spiritualism and in ‘The Moving Finger’ Rose uses the theme as a background to introduce her popular occult detective Norton Vyse into her series of short stories.

Rose Champion de Crespigny died on 10th February 1935. She was 75.
