Sinossi

Discover English idioms and their matching Spanish expressions in 48 memorable and cheerful illustrations.

This is not a standard textbook. It's a book for language lovers and learners who want to explore and live a language. In this book you can browse through 48 idioms, 24 English idioms and their 24 similar Spanish expressions. Each idiom also has its literal translation in the other language and is illustrated by the talented graphic artist Galih Windu.

This book is the brainchild of some friends living in Brussels. We often sat together and enjoyed the fact that languages sometimes have completely different ways to say the same thing. And Torsten Peters asked himself: Why not note this down and make funny illustrations? Language experts and -lovers will enjoy the illustrations and may still discover some new and amusing idioms. For language learners our idioms can be the key to really discover, enjoy and live the new language. And children will love the illustrations and become curious to discover languages.

Please note that the present English-Spanish version (vol. 9) is almost identical to the Spanish-English version, just the introduction is in English and not in Spanish.

Depending on your eBook reader, the layout may not be perfect, due to the format of the images used.

A Thousand Ways to Pay Attention...

It should have been Rebecca Schiller's dream come true: moving her young family to the English countryside to raise goats and coax their own fruit and vegetables from the land. But, as she writes: The summer of striding out toward a life of open fields and sacks of corn, I brought a confused black hole of something pernicious but not yet acknowledged along for the ride.

Rebecca's health begins to crumble, with bewildering symptoms: frequent falls, uncontrollable rages, and mysterious lapses in memory. As she fights to be seen by specialists, her fledgling homestead—and her family—hang by increasingly tenuous threads. And when her diagnosis finally comes, it is utterly unexpected: severe ADHD.

In her scramble for answers, Rebecca's consciousness alternately sears with pinpoint focus and spirals with connections. Childhood memories resurface with new meaning, and her daily life entwines with the history of women who tended this land before her. Her family weathers their growing pains where generations of acorns have fallen to rise again as trees, where ancient wolves and lynx once stalked the shadows. Written in unsparing, luminous prose, this is an all-absorbing memoir of one woman's newfound neurodivergence—and a clarion call to overturn the narrative that says minds are either normal and good or different and broken.

Down East Maine is well known for its breathtaking scenery and art museums. However, much of the history in the traditional mining and fishing area of Rockland and St. George remains untold. Hanson Gregory from Clam Cove invented the donut. Mary Brown Patten sailed a clipper around Cape Horn. Captain Albert Keller was shipwrecked on Easter Island and Effie Canning of Rockland composed the lullaby "Rock a Bye Baby." Captain Charles Holbrook of Tenants Harbor and his ship, the Hattie Dunn, fell victim to a German U-boat in the Atlantic. Local author Jane Merrill uncovers the forgotten stories and personalities that bring this unique area's history into focus.
