The satire of Gothic fiction, Northanger Abbey is twisted, thorny, and smart. But it’s never quite as dark as its protagonist, Catherine Moreland, expects it to be. After all, Catherine always has her nose in a Gothic novel, which means she imagines everything around her will be more dramatic and romantic than it ever is. Catherine is an average seventeen-year-old. She’s a sports-lover and an imaginative young woman—and she’s at the age when ladies of her era typically participate in courtship and marriage. But her dark filter on the world keeps getting in the way.

Northanger Abbey, published posthumously alongside Persuasion, was Jane Austen’s satirical response to the popular fiction of her day. This classic coming-of-age story is brimming with witty parody, over-the-top drama, and a nearly Shakespearean cast of characters.

A shadowy, candlelit chamber in a crumbling gothic mansion. A man in 19th-century clothing gazes up at a large, ornately framed portrait of a beautiful woman, her eyes lifelike and sorrowful. The room is draped in shadows and rich tapestries. A cold draft stirs the curtains. The atmosphere is haunting, melancholic, and filled with artistic reverence and dread.
The Oval Portrait by Edgar Allan Poe is a haunting, compact masterpiece of gothic fiction, blending themes of obsession, art, and mortality. First published in 1842, this eerie short story follows a weary traveler who, while resting in an abandoned chateau, becomes transfixed by a striking portrait of a young woman—one that seems almost unnervingly alive.
As he uncovers the painting’s backstory, the tale takes a dark and unforgettable turn. What emerges is a chilling meditation on the destructive power of artistic passion, and the blurred line between life and art.
This full audiobook brings Poe’s rich, atmospheric prose to life with immersive narration that captures the tale’s dread and melancholy. Ideal for listeners drawn to classic horror, literary symbolism, and the macabre genius of Poe.

"The Shunned House" is a horror fiction novelette by American author H.P. Lovecraft, written on October 16–19, 1924. It was first published in the October 1937 issue of Weird Tales. For many years, the narrator and his uncle, Dr. Elihu Whipple, have nurtured a fascination with an old abandoned house on Benefit Street. Dr. Whipple has made extensive records tracking the mysterious, yet apparently coincidental, sickness and death of many who have lived in the house for over one hundred years. They are also puzzled by the strange weeds growing in the yard, as well as an unexplained foul smell and whitish phosphorescent fungi growing in the cellar. There, the narrator discovers a strange, yellowish vapour in the basement, which seems to be coupled with a moldy outline of a huddled human form on the floor. The narrator and his uncle decide to spend the night in the house, investigating the possibility of some supernatural force. They set up both cots and chairs in the cellar, arm themselves with military flamethrowers, and outfit a modified Crookes tube in the hopes of destroying any supernatural presence they might find.
