Synopsis

Eddie and his uncle, retired homicide detective Mike O’Connell, must investigate a murder at the backstretch. Jessie Rivera, Sal Nicoletti’s longtime assistant trainer and lover, has been murdered, and Sal is the top suspect. Nicole Nicoletti, Eddie’s girlfriend, has set Chicago on fire with her sports betting picks, but needs Eddie’s help. 
A stolen lab book with secret blood test results for horses is sought after. The mob’s gambling boss is on his deathbed. After years on the Most Wanted List, the kingpin of the mob’s offshore gambling operation is back in town. The track’s top owner has enlisted Eddie’s help to gamble on his horses. Eddie and Mike must navigate the backstretch – a world of hidden agendas, competing trainers, migrants, gamblers, drugs, mobsters and owners, in a race to find a killer.
