Sinossi

In "Old Mother West Wind (Illustrated Edition)," Thornton Burgess masterfully weaves a tapestry of enchanting tales centered around the adventures of a whimsical cast of animal characters living in the idyllic setting of the Green Meadows and the Green Forest. Employing a charming and accessible style, Burgess imbues his narratives with anthropomorphic qualities, cleverly imparting moral lessons while engaging young readers with vivid illustrations. Set against the backdrop of early 20th-century American literature, this work reflects the growing interest in nature and the environment, themes that Burgess seamlessly integrates into his storytelling. Thornton Burgess, a naturalist, and conservationist, drew deeply from his love for the countryside and its inhabitants when writing this beloved book. His early experiences in rural Massachusetts, coupled with a passion for wildlife preservation, are evident in his portrayal of nature's harmonious balance. As a prolific writer, Burgess produced a plethora of children's stories, many of which promote ecological awareness, underscoring the importance of understanding and protecting the natural world. "Old Mother West Wind" is an essential read for both children and adults alike, offering timeless lessons wrapped in delightful tales. Readers will find themselves transported to a world where imagination thrives and nature's beauty reigns. This illustrated edition enhances the experience, making it a perfect addition to any family's bookshelf.

Americans have long been fascinated by the Civil War and its biggest battles, particularly Gettysburg, Antietam, and Shiloh, all of which involved Robert E. Lee or Ulysses S. Grant. But one of the 6 biggest battles of the war, and the one that took the heaviest toll by % on both armies was fought at the end of 1862 in Tennessee, and it involved neither of those generals. Though Stones River is mostly overlooked as a Civil War battle today, it had a decisive impact on the war. The two armies had both suffered nearly 33% casualties, an astounding number in 1862.
Of all the Civil War battles fought, and of all the victories achieved by Robert E. Lee at the command of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, the Battle of Chancellorsville is considered the most tactically complex and ultimately the most brilliant Confederate victory of the war. However, it cost them Stonewall Jackson, and the reorganization of the armies and the battle itself played an influential role in the way the Pennsylvania Campaign and the Battle of Gettysburg unfolded later that summer.
Without question, the most famous battle of the American Civil War took place outside of the small town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, which happened to be a transportation hub, serving as the center of a wheel with several roads leading out to other Pennsylvanian towns. From July 1-3, Robert E. Lee’s Confederate Army of Northern Virginia tried everything in its power to decisively defeat George Meade’s Union Army of the Potomac, unleashing ferocious assaults that inflicted nearly 50,000 casualties in all.
While many read about the siege of Vicksburg in the summer of 1863, as well as the desperate straits the Confederate soldiers and Vicksburg residents found themselves in, Grant’s initial attempts to advance towards Vicksburg met with several miserable failures, and it took several months just to get to the point where the Union forces could start a siege.

Emmy Award-winning and New York Times bestselling writer, comedian, and actor Bob Odenkirk and his daughter, illustrator Erin Odenkirk, present poetic nonsense for all ages perfect for fans of Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky! Bob Odenkirk began writing these poems with his children when they were little, compiling the poetry into a homemade book entitled Olde Time Rhymes. He wanted Nate and Erin to understand that actual people had written the books the family loved to read and to instill in them the feeling that they could be writers and illustrators themselves. Almost twenty years later, when the Odenkirks found themselves quarantined under the same roof, they revisited these mostly silly, sometimes poignant works. It wasn't until Erin began to create illustrations to accompany the words, though, that the book grew to be something much bigger than an Odenkirk family treasure. From the titular made-up word for a blanket fort, an adorable dog with a penchant for the zoomies, and a father teaching his kids how umbrellas work, the subjects of these works, complemented by Erin’s whimsical and detailed linework, come alive on these pages. Featuring over seventy poems, Zilot & Other Important Rhymes will delight readers young and old.
