Sinossi

In "Bible Mystery and Bible Meaning," Thomas Troward delves into the intricate relationship between biblical texts and the metaphysical concepts that underpin them. Through an analytical lens, Troward employs a uniquely elaborate literary style, marrying theological insights with philosophical inquiry. His work transcends traditional biblical interpretation, inviting readers to fathom deeper meanings embedded within scriptural narratives and exploring the Bible's cohesive themes of spirituality and human experience. With a rich historical context reflecting the early 20th century's fascination with mysticism and New Thought philosophy, Troward's treatise illuminates the transformative power of understanding biblical allegories. Thomas Troward, an influential figure within the New Thought movement, was renowned for his insights into the laws of mind and consciousness. His background as a district judge in India exposed him to diverse cultures and spiritual traditions, which profoundly shaped his understanding of religious texts. Troward's commitment to revealing the universal truths within the Bible culminated in this seminal work, establishing him as a bridge between scientific inquiry and spiritual exploration. "Bible Mystery and Bible Meaning" is a compelling read for anyone seeking to deepen their spiritual understanding or to explore the interconnectedness of faith and reason. Troward's eloquent discourse not only enriches one's perspective on biblical literature but also invites readers to engage in profound personal reflection, making this book a valuable asset for scholars, spiritual seekers, and readers alike.

What will happen when a tropical escape from holiday blues turns into a snowy wonderland filled with joy and cheer?

Carol Langstrom hates Christmas. Growing up in a dysfunctional home, with a birthday on December 25 and too many dashed childhood expectations, she would rather avoid the holiday season. And working in the design industry where she manages seasonal decor for wealthy, entitled clients certainly hasn't helped!

So, this year her goal is to flee to the Bahamas--by herself--bah humbug! But bad weather and God's radically different plan redirect her flight to blustery Michigan, where she gets stuck on her aunt's farm and discovers a different kind of Christmas--one wrapped in love, family, and holiday spirit.

Melody Carlson's Christmas novella delivers all the charm of a holiday Hallmark movie, is rooted in Christian faith, woven with sweet romance, and features A Christmas Carol themes.

Rumors of deception have surrounded claims of Jesus' resurrection ever since the soldiers appointed to guard his tomb made their report to the Jewish authorities. But no one has led the philosophic charge against miracles quite as influentially as David Hume with his 1748 essay "Of Miracles." Refined, revised, restated, his arguments still affect philosophic discussions of miracles today.

During the twentieth century, strong arguments have been raised by Antony Flew, now professor emeritus at Keele University in England. Flew has contributed a fresh statement of his objections to the idea of God's acting in history just for this volume, which also includes Hume's classic critique as a part of the case against miracles.

In response, Douglas Geivett and Gary Habermas have assembled a distinguished team of scholars to rebut the objections and set forth the positive case for God's action in history.

In Defense of Miracles is a comprehensive, up-to-date discussion that should not be overlooked by anyone concerned with the current debate over miracles.

The renowned and beloved New York Times bestselling author of An Altar in the World and Learning to Walk in the Dark recounts her moving discoveries of finding the sacred in unexpected places while teaching the world’s religions to undergraduates in rural Georgia, revealing how God delights in confounding our expectations.
Barbara Brown Taylor continues her spiritual journey begun in Leaving Church of finding out what the world looks like after taking off her clergy collar. In Holy Envy, she contemplates the myriad ways other people and traditions encounter the Transcendent, both by digging deeper into those traditions herself and by seeing them through her students’ eyes as she sets off with them on field trips to monasteries, temples, and mosques.
Troubled and inspired by what she learns, Taylor returns to her own tradition for guidance, finding new meaning in old teachings that have too often been used to exclude religious strangers instead of embracing the divine challenges they present. Re-imagining some central stories from the religion she knows best, she takes heart in how often God chooses outsiders to teach insiders how out-of-bounds God really is.
Throughout Holy Envy, Taylor weaves together stories from the classroom with reflections on how her own spiritual journey has been complicated and renewed by connecting with people of other traditions—even those whose truths are quite different from hers.  The one constant in her odyssey is the sense that God is the one calling her to disown her version of God—a change that ultimately enriches her faith in other human beings and in God.

    The Thousand Teachings of...

The Thousand Teachings is the one work which almost all scholars agree was written by the original Shankaracharya, and which is not a commentary on something else.
A number of texts that have been attributed to Shankara in the past are now believed to have been written by followers. And the majority of his own writings are commentaries on the Upanishads, Brahma Sutras and Bhagavad Gita. In the Thousand Teachings Shankara quotes these texts but the overall presentation is his own.
Shankara's principal concerns are always to distinguish the Real from the apparent; to establish the identity of the Self and the Real; to understand and correct the way that juxtaposition of the Real and the apparent leads to false identification and human suffering; and to understand how right knowledge can occur. On these perennial questions, the experience of many enquirers has been that Shankara and those contemporary exponents who do not depart from his core principles, remain the most insightful and reliable of all guides.
The Thousand Teachings is here freshly translated by A J Alston PhD, a Sanskrit scholar who also complied the six-volume Shankara Source Book, and lifelong member of Shanti Sadan. This version is intended particularly for those who wish to study Shankara's teachings in pursuit of the goal of inner illumination.
