Magnetic Current is a short pamphlet by eccentric sculptor and writer Edward Leedskalnin. Detailing his many experiments with magnets, this work posits that it is not metal itself that is magnetic. Rather, tiny individual magnet particles that circulate in and around the metal give it its pull.Edward Leedskalnin was born in Latvia in 1887. While his formal education lasted only until 4th grade, he was intensely curious and spent much of his youth reading. At the age of 26, Leedskalnin became engaged. But as the young woman was only 16, she (or her mother) decided that he wasn’t a suitable match and called off the wedding the day before it was set to occur. Heartbroken, Leedskalnin emigrated to the United States. In 1923, he purchased an undeveloped acre of land in Florida City. Over the next 28 years, Leedskalnin cut massive pieces of oolite rock from his property, moved them, and sculpted them—all on his own. He built a two-story tower from oolite, which served as his living quarters. In the grounds below, sculptures and carved stone furniture dot the landscape. The project was dedicated to his “Sweet Sixteen,” the woman who rejected him years before.During the years of his construction project, Leedskalnin studied and tested magnets from his home base of Rock Gate. His findings were eventually compiled into Magnetic Current, a short pamphlet detailing his theories of magnetism. The pamphlet explains many of his experiments. Using U-shaped, round, and bar magnets, as well as car batteries, light bulbs, and coils of wire, he demonstrates the movements of magnetic currents in a double helix pattern, swirling around each other to create pull.

Over 50 years ago, astronomers launched the world's first orbiting telescope to gaze further into outer space to examine anything that appears in the sky above our heads, from comets and planets to galaxy clusters and stars. Since then, almost 100 space telescopes have been launched from Earth and are orbiting our planet, with 26 still active and relaying information back to us.

As a result of these space-based instruments, such as NASA's iconic Hubble Space Telescope, we know much more about the universe now than we did half a century ago. But why is Hubble, orbiting just 540 kilometres above the Earth, so much more effective than a ground-based telescope? How can a glorified camera tell us not only what distant objects look like, but their detailed chemical composition and three-dimensional structure as well?

In Eyes in the Sky, science writer Andrew May takes us on a journey into space to answer these questions and more by looking at the development of revolutionary instruments, such as Hubble and the James Webb Space Telescope, exploring how such technology has helped us understand the evolution of the Universe.

Time is a fascinating subject and one which affects our lives in many ways.
This book covers a lot of aspects of the subject.
First, how did measurements of time like seconds, minutes, hours, and years develop?
Next, what is the history of timekeeping mechanisms from ancient water clocks, to mechanical mechanisms, atomic clocks, and much more.
Lastly, what are some of the stranger aspects or anomalies of time such as premonitions, how time and space work, and possible time travel stories.
And philosophical questions like: Does the future already exist?
I wanted this book to be a comprehensive volume on time and so included lots of different stories and understandings about time which indicate we may not fully understand it yet.
