Sinossi

Art Censorship explores the suppression of artistic expression throughout history and its profound impact on cultural memory. This intersection of art, history, and power reveals how censorship aims to control narratives and shape our understanding of the world. Discover how art, acting as a mirror to societal values, often faces suppression during social upheaval when power structures feel threatened.

The book examines the motivations behind censorship, whether rooted in religious doctrines, political ideologies, or social norms, and how these attempts to rewrite history influence cultural identity. For example, the alteration or banning of specific images reflects anxieties and power dynamics within a society. Art Censorship progresses through historical periods and geographical locations organized around themes like religious, political, and social morality related censorship.

Through case studies and historical documents, Art Censorship demonstrates that suppressing art is not just about silencing voices but controlling the collective consciousness. This analytical approach provides valuable insights for anyone interested in art history, freedom of speech, and the ongoing debates concerning cultural expression. The book concludes by examining the legacy of art censorship in the digital age, considering contemporary challenges to artistic freedom.

Society was not built with the needs of Black women in mind. As a result, we learn that the only way to feel good about ourselves is to prioritize everyone else's needs over our own. We find our value in being the perfect partner, mother, daughter, employee, and friend. But that is exhausting. Instead of feeling good about how dope we are, we only feel good about what we do for others.

Supremacy culture teaches us to hate Black people, to hate women, and to especially hate Black women . . . except when they need us. So in a world where our service is required for acceptance, how could we ever feel good about ourselves while also giving the middle finger to systems of power? How can we live our best lives? The answer: Self-esteem. Self-esteem has been gatekept by the white and male supremacist delusions for far too long. It's time to put power where it actually belongs.

In Drink Water and Mind Your Business, Dr. Donna Oriowo helps listeners understand the basic foundations of self-esteem and offers real, meaningful solutions to feel like the most glorious and badass versions of themselves. Based on years of research and Dr. Donna's career as a licensed sex and relationship therapist, this book will help you set boundaries, prioritize your needs, understand your immense worth, and pursue a life that brings you pleasure and joy.

World War II was fought on a scale unlike anything before or since in human history, and the unfathomable casualty counts are attributable in large measure to the carnage inflicted between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union during Hitler’s invasion of Russia and Stalin’s desperate defense. The invasion came in 1941 following a nonaggression pact signed between the two in 1939, which allowed Hitler to focus his attention on the west without having to worry about an attack from the eastern front. While Germany was focusing on the west, the Soviet Union sent large contingents of troops to the border region between the two countries, and Stalin’s plan to take territory in Poland and the Baltic States angered Hitler. By 1940, Hitler viewed Stalin as a major threat and had made the decision to invade Russia: “In the course of this contest, Russia must be disposed of...Spring 1941. The quicker we smash Russia the better.”
Stalin knew that if he could delay an invasion through the summer of 1941, he would be safe for another year, but Hitler began to plan to invade Russia by May of 1941. Since military secrets are typically the hardest to keep, Stalin soon began to hear rumors of the invasion, but even when Winston Churchill contacted him in April of 1941 warning him that German troops seemed to be massing on Russia’s border, Stalin remained dubious. Stalin felt even more secure in his position when the Germans failed to invade the following May.
The Soviets were so caught by surprise at the start of the attack that the Germans were able to push several hundred miles into Russia across a front that stretched dozens of miles long, reaching the major cities of Leningrad and Sevastopol in just three months. In order to make clear his determination to win at all costs, Stalin had the three men in charge of the troops defending Minsk executed for their failure to hold their position.
