Sinossi

A play set in a council house in a small Leicestershire town. Vincent's skiing on the Wii, Sheila's feeding her great-granddaughter McKenzie, and Kerry's getting on with the ironing. None of them are planning on voting in the election, but when Selina Snow rings the doorbell to canvas, perhaps she can change their minds, or they can change hers.
This play was first staged at the Traverse Theatre, in 2010 as part of the Women, Power & Politics season.

Like the rhapsodists, the storytellers of ancient Greece, A Pretty Sight shapes voices of the past and present into a stitched song lifted and sounded toward the next century. Haunted by ‘time's frame / that dark shape near the edge of the canvas,’ O’Meara's new book explores aspects of culture, art, war, rebellion and technology, offering defiance amid decay.

‘O’Meara is a poet of the personal. Of the person. In and amongst the social documentary and human observation at which he excels, here is a writer prepared to put feelings on the line and to argue his case with the reader. This is proud, felt, and affecting work — I can't think of many other poets so prepared to engage and so equipped to succeed.’ —Simon Armitage

"The beautiful, elegant, hearbreakingly sad story of Lancelot, Guinevere and Arthur is Ediwn Arlington Robinson's subject in his 1920 novella in verse, ""Lancelot."" His focus throughout is is on one side of the triangle, that of Lancelot and Guinevere. As in his previous Arthurian poem, ""Merlin,"" he does not give us Malory's tales of jousts and tournaments; he sets his poem instead in the quiet moments of reflection, hope, anger, forgiveness, remorse and honesty that allow him to explore the meaning of this, one of literature's most enduring love stories, in the depths of the hearts and minds of his characters. Measured, elegiac, but always clear-eyed, he faces unflinchingly the agony of love that cannot be, and in so doing, breaks our hearts while satisfying our souls."
