Sinossi

In "Heavens and Earth," Stephen Vincent Benét crafts a sweeping narrative that interweaves the mystical and the historical, exploring the American experience from its indigenous roots to the quintessentially modern era. Employing a rich tapestry of poetic language and vivid imagery, Benét delves into the complexities of nature, spirituality, and the human condition, providing readers with a profound sense of place and identity. This collection reflects the modernist literary context of the early 20th century, characterized by experimentation with form and a focus on the psychological landscape of both individuals and society at large. Stephen Vincent Benét, an acclaimed American poet and novelist, was heavily influenced by his own experiences growing up in diverse cultural backgrounds across the United States. His deep appreciation for American folklore and history is evident throughout the collection, as he seeks to bridge the past with the present in a manner that honors both. The themes of memory, loss, and the search for meaning resonate throughout his work, making his voice uniquely relevant to the American literary canon. I highly recommend "Heavens and Earth" to readers seeking a profound exploration of the intersection between humanity and the natural world. Benét's masterful use of language and his ability to evoke emotion will resonate with both poetry enthusiasts and those interested in the larger narratives of American history, making this collection a compelling and enriching read.

Welcome y'all! This project was created for those who think they don't like Shakespeare. It is a completely unsanctioned and unconventional interpretation of some of the works of William Shakespeare. If you are a purist be forewarned! I have always been fascinated with the written works of Shakespeare since I was a child trying to decipher the giant volume of his works I discovered in my father's library. I knew it was important historically but the language had me often running to a dictionary in those pre-Google days. Understanding a live performance was an equally challenging task as the British accents combined with the lambic pentameter rhythm left me struggling to understand the meaning. But once you figure what he's saying you realized these timeless stories of dysfunctional families and political intrigue are just as relevant today as 400 years ago. Every actor in training experiences the works of William Shakespeare to some degree. While memorizing lines I would try various characters and accents. For Richard III's famous opening monologue I settled on a genteel aristocrat from the Southern United States. I shared with my instructor and after some initial eye rolls he had to admit it was easier to understand. Eventually I created a one man show around the idea and wrote original songs that I believe express the emotion and underlying intentions of the pieces. And of course what's a variety show without an MC or two. In this case two squabbling siblings Auntie Bella and her twin brother Beauregard to bring a small respite to the drama. During the COVID pandemic I decided to record an audio version of the show. I hope you enjoy my family of misfits as much as I did creating them. But hey, to thine own taste be true. Cousin Willy must have had a sense of humor to write some of this stuff!

“You don’t so much read these poems as fall into them. It’s like plummeting into someone else’s memories—a great rush of beauty and darkness, joy and weirdness. As soon as you finish one, you want to start over again from the beginning. This book is such a gift.”—Gin Phillips, author of Fierce Kingdom and Family Law

WINNER OF THE NATIONAL BOOK CRITICS CIRCLE AWARD
FINALIST FOR THE PEN/JEAN STEIN BOOK AWARD
From U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón comes The Carrying—her most powerful collection yet.
Vulnerable, tender, acute, these are serious poems, brave poems, exploring with honesty the ambiguous moment between the rapture of youth and the grace of acceptance. A daughter tends to aging parents. A woman struggles with infertility—“What if, instead of carrying / a child, I am supposed to carry grief?”—and a body seized by pain and vertigo as well as ecstasy. A nation convulses: “Every song of this country / has an unsung third stanza, something brutal.” And still Limón shows us, as ever, the persistence of hunger, love, and joy, the dizzying fullness of our too-short lives. “Fine then, / I’ll take it,” she writes. “I’ll take it all.”
In Bright Dead Things, Limón showed us a heart “giant with power, heavy with blood”—“the huge beating genius machine / that thinks, no, it knows, / it’s going to come in first.” In her follow-up collection, that heart is on full display—even as The Carrying continues further and deeper into the bloodstream, following the hard-won truth of what it means to live in an imperfect world.

The Soul´s Journey Home is a collection of poems borne out of a spiritual journey brought about due to the pandemic a few years ago. The resulting awakening provided me with the answers to many questions I was unsure about with regards to faith and spirituality and the discovery can have widespread benefits within every aspect of a persons life. The purpose of my poetry is to encourage curiosity within the reader and convey how our answers are well within our reach and closer than we might have imagined.

Except her mum's got used to having a life of her own, and doesn't fancy giving up pole-dancing class and Tinder to go back to changing nappies and no sleep. Meanwhile, fresh out of hospital with a broken leg, her nan's having a three-quarter-life crisis of her own.
From slammed doors to living-room karaoke, Lydia Marchant's play Mumsy is a sparky, soulful comedy drama about the highs and lows of motherhood. It premiered at Hull Truck Theatre in March 2023.

In this bilingual poetry collection, Roberto Germán, shares writing across 20 years of his life. The poems tell stories of love, relationships, race, identity, and everyday living. These subjects divide the book into three parts. The poetic forms include free verse, rhyme, haiku and more, all relatable and real with vivid detail. As he explores what it's like to be a young man growing into his identity, the readers are invited into a rarely explored point of view with this level of imagery and sensorial writing: life through the young adult eyes of a Black Dominican-American, son of immigrants."Blue Ink Tears is a work of emotional beauty, historical awe, and nostalgic reminiscence. What you've compiled here is a collection of experiences, not just poems, that will make young readers think and dig deep." Tanya Manning-Yarde
