Sinossi

Serendipity…

For the better part of twenty-five years, both Octavia Fiske and Armand Mundy have long awaited this particular weekend.

For Fiske, the CEO of the Norwood Fox, this weekend represents new beginnings, as the company morphs into an undeniable behemoth. While for Mundy, it’s the opposite; the end of the Air Force major general’s tenure acting as lead mechanical engineer on the globe’s prototype autarkical space station—the First Arcadia.

Originally conceived by her father and the company’s founder, Maynard Fiske, and built by some of the finest minds to ever walk the planet, First Arcadia is a dream come true to governments and citizens alike.

Essentially, the station seeks to become humanity’s primary gateway to the heavens. Something you can’t put a price on, although Fiske and her constituents are determined enough to try.

And it is their greed that ultimately may doom us all as the space station is commandeered by a rogue faction that seems to know the true magnitude of the First Arcadia’s power.

Unfortunately for Mundy and his protégé, Max Conaway, they are unwittingly pressed into duty to act as the planet’s last line of defense. Should they fail in their mission, the results may prove catastrophic.

Heaven is undeniably in hell!

Archaeologist Martin Day had an affair with Ophelia Blue twenty years ago, and suddenly she is on her way to Naxos because she needs his help. He is excited to see her again, but also wary as his life now revolves around Helen. Ophelia, however, behaves perfectly - until she disappears after their first evening together without revealing why she had come. The police refuse to regard Ophelia as a missing person, nor is the difficult new Chief of Police, Inspector Kyriakos Tsountas, the kind of man to accept that her disappearance is connected to a strange local legend. The legend speaks of a lost ancient artefact known as the Kallos of Naxos. Only one man ever tried to find the Kallos, and he's dead. If Day is to find Ophelia he will need all his ingenuity and imagination, and quite possibly his courage.

This is the fourth in the Naxos Mysteries series, in which many things come to a head for Martin Day in his search for the missing Ophelia.

Rome, 58 AD. Aemilius Valerius is on the up and up. His reputation has been rehabilitated, he has established a fledgling career, and he has new friends in very powerful places. When one of those new friends, the poet Lucan, is attacked, Valerius is given an offer he can’t refuse: find the culprits before they strike again. But when every man in Lucan’s circle of poets and playwrights and artists is potentially a suspect, each one of them competing for the emperor’s favor, how is Valerius supposed to tell the difference between petty jealousy and murderous rage? Meanwhile, the Vigile Junius Atreus has his own violent crime to investigate, and the more he and Valerius dig around, the murkier and more dangerous things become. Can Valerius and Atreus solve the crimes and save their reputations—and their lives—before the Juvenalia, Nero’s birthday extravaganza of poetry, plays, musical performances, and dance? On the plus side, if they get murdered, at least they won’t have to sit through that.
