Anna Christie is a play in four acts, which won O'Neill the 1922 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Anna makes contact with the father she has not seen since her infancy, and he takes her on board his coal barge. There she falls in love with a man they rescue from a shipwreck, but trouble arises when she tells them she has been working as a prostitute.
Narrated in the first person, the story is a collection of journal entries written by a woman whose physician husband (John) has rented an old mansion for the summer. Forgoing other rooms in the house, the couple moves into the upstairs nursery. As a form of treatment, the unnamed woman is forbidden from working, and is encouraged to eat well and get plenty of air, so she can recuperate from what he calls a "temporary nervous depression – a slight hysterical tendency", a diagnosis common to women during that period.Mostra libro
Three men, Mihailo the porter, Nikandr the fish merchant, and Stepan the coachman, sit around a table in the coach-house playing a game of "kings" with Stepan's eight-year old grandson, Alyoshka. While each card player competitively tries to win the coveted position of "king" in the game, a more serious atmosphere casts a sad shadow over the estate in which the coach-house is situated. The man of the house, for whom the porter and coachman work, has attempted suicide, and he lies in the estate house struggling somewhere between life and death. Although the card game had been light-hearted, the exit of the doctors, for whom the porter must open the door, turns the card players' conversation to the religious implications of suicide, which Nikandr relates in a similar experience he had. The ghostly ramifications in Nikandr's story frighten young Alyoshka, whose fright becomes worse when the men learn the fate of their boss.Mostra libro

In the Jungle Books, Kipling tells 9 wonderful and exciting tales about Mowgli, the human baby raised by a pack of wolves in the jungles of India. His exploits and adventures are many and varied especially his dealing with the other animals such as his wolf mother and father and brother wolves, Baloo the wise bear who teaches him the Law of the Jungle, and in his life long battle with Shere-Kahn, the lame human killing tiger. I have enjoyed these stories so much that I decided to take all 9 of them that are scattered throughout the first and second Jungle Books, as well as a few of his songs, and to put them into a chronological order from when he was a baby in the wolf den (Mowli's Brothers) to his teen age years when he hears the irresistable call of civilization and being with his own kindMostra libro
The Torah (Hebrew: תּוֹרָה, "Instruction", "Teaching" or "Law") is the first part of the Tanakh, the Hebrew Bible. It contains the first five books (Pentateuch or Five Books of Moses), namely (in their commonly used names) Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. This is known in the Jewish tradition as the Written Torah.In rabbinic literature the word Torah denotes both the five books (Hebrew: תורה שבכתב, romanized: torah shebichtav, "Torah that is written") and the Oral Torah (Hebrew: תורה שבעל פה, romanized: torah shebe'al peh, "Torah that is spoken"). The Oral Torah consists of interpretations and amplifications which according to rabbinic tradition have been handed down from generation to generation and are now embodied in the Talmud and Midrash. Rabbinic tradition's understanding is that all of the teachings found in the Torah (both written and oral) were given by God through the prophet Moses, some at Mount Sinai and others at the Tabernacle, and all the teachings were written down by Moses, which resulted in the Torah that exists today. According to the Midrash, the Torah was created prior to the creation of the world, and was used as the blueprint for Creation. The majority of Biblical scholars believe that the written books were a product of the Babylonian captivity (c. 6th century BCE), based on earlier written sources and oral traditions, and that it was completed with final revisions during the post-Exilic period (c. 5th century BCE).Traditionally, the words of the Torah are written on a scroll by a scribe (sofer) in Hebrew.
