Sinossi

Antimicrobial Filter Coatings addresses the pressing issue of microbial contamination in filters across various sectors, from water purification to medical devices. It delves into the application and effectiveness of silver, copper, and enzymatic coatings to combat microbial colonization. Intriguingly, traditional filters, while removing particles, often fail to prevent microbial growth, leading to biofilm formation. Furthermore, the book considers the potential toxicity of silver-based coatings alongside their broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties, and examines how copper treatments can target specific pathogens.

The book presents a comprehensive overview, starting with the fundamentals of microbial adhesion and the action mechanisms of the antimicrobial agents. It then dedicates individual chapters to analyzing each coating type, including synthesis and application. Case studies highlight real-world applications. This approach bridges microbiology with materials science and chemical engineering, offering a holistic perspective on microbial contamination. It is particularly valuable as it offers a comparative analysis of silver, copper, and enzymatic treatments, guiding the reader through the selection and implementation of these coatings for specific needs.

The Wonders of Radium by Maynard Shipley is a captivating scientific exploration of one of the most fascinating discoveries of the early 20th century. Written in a time of scientific revolution, this work explains the origin, nature, and wide-ranging applications of radium, a radioactive element famously discovered by Marie and Pierre Curie. Shipley skillfully translates complex scientific principles into accessible language, detailing radium's powerful effects—from revolutionizing medical treatments, such as early cancer therapies, to its curious industrial and agricultural uses.
With a mix of scientific rigor and wonder, Shipley delves into the processes of radioactive decay, the extraction of radium from ores, and the element’s role in estimating the age of the Earth. Readers will find insights into the cultural and scientific impact of radium, a substance once seen as miraculous and later viewed with more caution. This is a snapshot of a pivotal moment in scientific history, capturing humanity’s fascination with atomic energy before its darker implications were fully realized.

This audiobook is a companion to the Science in the Ancient World Textbook.
While it is possible to learn a lot of science by just listening to the audiobook on it's own, the textbook is required to gain the full value from this course.
Science in the Ancient World is the second book in a hands-on, multilevel elementary science series that introduces scientific concepts using history as its guide. Because each lesson is built around an activity or experiment, it is engaging for all K-6 students. In addition, there are three levels of review for each lesson, so the parent/teacher can choose the depth at which each student is expected to grasp the material. The course contains roughly 90 hours of instruction, 35 of which are composed of hands-on activities.
The course covers the scientific work of natural philosophers who lived from about 600 BC to the early AD 1500s. It concentrates mostly on what these ancient scientists got right, but it does spend some time discussing what they got wrong, because even the mistakes that scientists make can sometimes advance our understanding of the natural world. Of course, when the students are taught something that is now known to be incorrect, they are made aware of this fact!
Because the course covers science as it was developed, it covers a wide range of topics including human anatomy, medicine, optics, heliocentrism, geocentrism, sound, music, magnets, how steam is used to generate power, the motion of objects through a medium, combustion, levers, pulleys, plant growth, plant anatomy, tree ring dating, the atmosphere, astronomy, the basics of graphing, plastics, density, water flow, friction, and erosion. Throughout the course, students learn that most of the great scientists who lived from AD 500 to the end of this time period were devout Christians who did science because they thought they could learn more about God by studying His handiwork.

Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is an 1845 memoir and treatise on abolition written by famous orator and former slave Frederick Douglass during his time in Lynn, Massachusetts. It is generally held to be the most famous of a number of narratives written by former slaves during the same period. In factual detail, the text describes the events of his life and is considered to be one of the most influential pieces of literature to fuel the abolitionist movement of the early 19th century in the United States.
Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass encompasses eleven chapters that recount Douglass's life as a slave and his ambition to become a free man. It contains two introductions by well-known white abolitionists: a preface by William Lloyd Garrison, and a letter by Wendell Phillips, both arguing for the veracity of the account and the literacy of its author.
The most famous and inspirational works of Frederick Douglass include: Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, My Bondage and My Freedom, Life and Times,  Letter to Thomas Auld, The Frederick Douglass Papers Edition and many more.
