Sinossi

"Rocky Mountain Life" is a memoir of Rufus B. Sage, American writer, journalist, and mountain man who went on a three-year expedition in the Far West. Incited by a strong desire to explore the vast region beyond the Missouri frontier, Sage organized a party to explore the west. Despite the fact that his party was scarce, Sage ventured onwards and later joined a party of Indian traders. The book covers perilous adventures in the Far West and the life of fur trappers. It depicts many startling scenes during the expedition from 1841 to 1844.

Can gender stereotypes in childhood be more destructive than our culture perceives and stand in the way of gender equality?

When Jodi Bondi Norgaard, an experienced entrepreneur, attempted to shake-up the toy industry with a sports doll that appeals to today's more athletic, adventurous girls, she came to realize the roadblocks to success weren't only reluctant toy buyers, but a patriarchal culture that perpetuates gender roles and sexism. More Than a Doll is about her mission to break gender stereotypes and challenge the status quo.

Through illuminating testimonials, data, research, interviews, and cultural observations, listeners will come away with clear examples of the dangers of early gender stereotyping and how we continue to fail to see the harm.

    After all: "It's just a toy." "It's just a t-shirt." "It's just a show."

Bondi Norgaard is sounding the siren that gender inequality doesn't begin in our teens, it begins the moment a child can hold a toy or book or watch a screen. The programing starts early, and the impact is lifelong.

"The Condition of the Working-Class in England in 1844" is a socio-economic and political work by Friedrich Engels, a German philosopher and collaborator of Karl Marx. The book provides a critical analysis of the living and working conditions of the working class in England during the Industrial Revolution. Engels conducted extensive research and firsthand observations, drawing attention to the deplorable conditions faced by the working class in urban industrial centers. He explores issues such as long working hours, child labor, unsanitary living conditions, lack of workers' rights, and the exploitation of labor by the emerging industrial capitalist class. The book serves as a scathing critique of the social and economic inequalities of the time, highlighting the stark contrast between the living conditions of the working class and the affluent bourgeoisie.

A guide to identifying, nurturing and growing our insight and creativity for more effective thinking.
We know that our minds are capable of great things because, every now and then, they come out with a brilliant idea or two. However, our minds are also unpredictable, spending large stretches of time idling or distracting themselves. This is a book about how to optimize these beautiful yet fitful instruments so that they can more regularly and generously produce the sort of insights and ideas we need to fulfill our potential and achieve the contentment we deserve. Among other things, we learn how to grasp fragile and flighty thoughts before they disappear through anxiety and fear; at what times of day to try to work and for how long; how to make use of our boredom and instincts; and how to overcome timid and predictable approaches to the largest problems. The result is an operating manual to that most wondrous, though intermittent and always baffling, organ: the human mind.
