He and the chauffeur Taylor, are both gay and in a relationship.Robert is tramping across the south of France, aiming to meet his friend and patient, Barty, in Italy. As part of the challenge he has set himself, he is working and hitching his way across to Italy, not having brought any cash or cards to finance his journey.Annabel is on her way back via Nice, to Monaco, after a gruelling business trip. She drives a top of the range red jaguar car.Annabel, on route from Nice airport, feeling exhausted and worried she might fall asleep at the wheel, parks in the car park at the start of the Promenade des Anglais, to take fresh air before driving on to Monaco.Robert is sleeping as a tramp under the promenade.Prostitutes are using the car park as a base in order to serve the airport trade.When Annabel is mugged she screams for help and is rescued by Robert.  Robert thinks she is a prostitute and she thinks he is an alcoholic tramp.  Subsequently, they sit together and as they converse, they warm to each other, but they don't expect their meeting to be more than a passing of two ships in the night.  But later they make love in her Jaguar.  They part, but don’t realise they have fallen in love.  The story shows how they get back together

  The Rupture Tense - Poems

  Shaped around moments of puncture and release, The Rupture Tense registers what leaks across the breached borders between past and future, background and foreground, silence and utterance. In polyphonic and formally restless sequences, Jenny Xie cracks open reverberant, vexed experiences of diasporic homecoming, intergenerational memory  
  transfer, state-enforced amnesia, public secrecies, and the psychic fallout of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Across these poems, memory—historical, collective, personal—stains and erodes. Xie voices what remains irreducible in our complex entanglements with familial ties, language, capitalism, and the histories in which we find ourselves lodged. 
   
  The Rupture Tense begins with poems provoked by the photography of Li Zhensheng, whose negatives, hidden under his floorboards to avoid government seizure, provide one of the few surviving visual archives of the Chinese Cultural Revolution, and concludes with an aching elegy for the poet’s grandmother, who took her own life shortly after the end  
  of the Revolution. This extraordinary collection records the aftershocks and long distances between those years and the present, echoing out toward the ongoing past and a trembling future.

  Wherever you’re from, from whatever background or class, no one knows  what goes on behind closed doors. The trauma and abuse I was brought up
   with from a young child has made me the person that I am today. It is like a branding iron put onto a developing mind. The scars you cannot see but dictate my every moment, others of you out there will know exactly what I mean. I hold no shame for what was done to me as a child.
   It has certainly given me more tolerance for other’s situations because of it. It has certainly made me more understanding. For all my adult life, I have suffered from mental health issues as a result. This itself has made me more empathetic with others. All these poems come from deep within. Some written from very dark places, others from hope and forgiveness, I’ve written many poems when I’ve had no one to talk to. Writing has always been there for me - it has always been my friend. 
  Forgive those that hurt you for it will only harm you. Love and good luck

  A. B. Spellman is an acclaimed American poet, music critic, and arts administrator. He is widely recognized as a leading figure in the Black Arts Movement of the 1960s and 1970s, a cultural and literary movement that emphasized Black identity, pride, and artistic expression. Between the Night and Its Music brings together A. B. Spellman's early work with a collection of powerful new poems. Spellman's literary career took flight in 1965 with his debut poetry collection, The Beautiful Days, which introduced his distinctive voice blending elements of jazz, blues, and African oral traditions. In 1966, Four Lives in the Bebop Business established Spellman as a respected music critic and scholar. It was a groundbreaking work that chronicled the lives and struggles of four influential jazz musicians. Spellman held senior positions at the National Endowment for the Arts for thirty years with lasting impact on arts funding for inner cities and rural and tribal communities.
