Sinossi

An Inland Voyage presents a contemplative journey through rivers, villages, and the quiet interiors of the human soul. Written in the richly meditative voice associated with Herman Melville, the book transforms a modest inland expedition into a profound exploration of nature, solitude, and the restless spirit of mankind.

As the narrator drifts through winding waterways and rural landscapes, each encounter—whether with strangers, shifting weather, or moments of silence—becomes an occasion for reflection. Far from the vast oceans of Melville's seafaring tales, this inland passage reveals that the same elemental struggles exist wherever a man travels: freedom and confinement, purpose and uncertainty, observation and introspection.

Blending travel narrative with philosophical inquiry, An Inland Voyage meditates on the relationship between humanity and the natural world, suggesting that the true voyage is not measured in miles, but in awareness. With lyrical prose, subtle humor, and penetrating insight, the book invites readers to slow their pace, question their assumptions, and discover meaning in life's quieter currents.

This is a journey not of conquest, but of understanding—one that lingers long after the final page.

    Virginia Woolf

Adeline Virginia Woolf was born on the 25th January 1882 in South Kensington in London.
Although lauded as a founder of modernist writing with such classics as ‘Orlando’, ‘Mrs Dalloway’ and ‘To the Lighthouse’ and, of course, many classic short stories, her background is filled with elements of tragedy that she somehow overcame to become such a revered writer. Her mother died when she was 13, her half-sister Stella two years later and with it her first of several nervous breakdowns. Appallingly it was later found that three of her half-brothers had sexually abused her so darkness must have seemed ever present.
She began writing professionally at age 20 but her father’s death two years later brought a complete mental collapse and she was briefly institutionalised. Somehow she found within herself a literary career and with it great innovations in writing; she was a pioneer of “stream of consciousness”.
Her tight circle of friends were the founders of the Bloomsbury Group, a movement whose legacy still influences across the arts and society in many way to this day.
Whilst the dark periods continued to interrupt her emotional state her rate of work never ceased. Until, on 28th March 1941, Woolf put on her overcoat, filled up its pockets with stones, and walked into the River Ouse, in Lewes, East Sussex and drowned herself. Her body was not recovered until the 18th April. She was 59.
She left behind a note which read in part “Dearest, I feel certain that I am going mad again. I feel we can't go through another of those terrible times. And I shan't recover this time. I begin to hear voices, and I can't concentrate. So I am doing what seems the best thing to do”.

Heidi Barr didn't believe in Jesus. No one in her Jewish family did, nor did they want to--especially not her father, who told her that Jesus Christ was the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on humankind. So when Heidi was in a terrible horseback riding accident and died at age 16, Jesus was the last person she expected to see. Yet she did. And then she returned to life.

This is the incredible true story of Heidi's difficult family life, her sudden death, her unexpectedly loving encounter with Jesus, and her return to life on earth as a person completely and irrevocably changed. This is also the story of Heidi loving her father and mother despite their disbelief of and disagreement with her faith. And this is the gripping, beautiful story of her parents' eventual reconciliation both with Heidi and with God, through the redeeming grace and all-encompassing love of Jesus Christ.

Was Bowie an aloof and unavailable artist, or a 'Starman' who descended to bring good news to the masses…a chameleon?
David Bowie: The Collector teases out the elements which Bowie used to build his success: his profound sense of artifice, his ability to tap into the zeitgeist of his times and his gift for gathering ideas and influences from a variety of sources and rearranging them to produce not only new perspectives but also brand-new ideas. Revealed by the testimony of his closest friends and partners we see Bowie with humour, grace and humility – a highly focused Bowie – borrowing and combining ideas from multiple sources and creating new visions.
    Praise for this book.
'A gripping read and a must for Bowie fans. Packed with intricate, well-researched and little-known detail on the multi-dimensional swirl around Bowie's creative genius.' Victoria Broackes, co-curator of 'David Bowie is' (V&A)
'There are scores of books about the legend that is David Bowie which investigates his life, body and soul, but this dives deep into the DNA of a polymath, a performer, a poet and a prophet whose story captivated generations and will continue to enchant for those yet to come.' “With candor and deep vulnerability, Mullen offers a compelling, honest, and hopeful memoir that examines the hidden truths involved in accepting our deepest wants and desires. The Only Way Through Is Out is a lesson to all of us on what great things can happen when we act with authenticity.”—Jessi Hempel, author of The Family Outing“I could not put this book down. Mullen shows us the search for one’s authentic self has no expiration date and is worth whatever it takes. This book is a glorious tale of tenacious courage that anyone searching for their own path in life will love.”—Jennifer Louden, national bestselling author of Why Bother? Discover the Desire for What’s Next Suzette Mullen had been raised to play it safe—and she hated causing others pain. With college and law degrees, a kind and successful husband, two thriving adult sons, and an ocean-view vacation home, she lived a life many people would envy. But beneath the happy facade was a woman who watched her friends walk boldly through their lives and wondered what was holding her back from doing the same. Digging into her past, Suzette uncovered a deeply buried truth: she’d been in love with her best friend—a woman—for nearly two decades—and still was. Leaning into these “unspeakable” feelings would put Suzette’s identity, relationships, and life of privilege at risk—but she knew taking this leap might also provide her only chance to feel fully alive. Introspective, bittersweet, and empowering, The Only Way Through Is Out is both a coming-out and coming-of-age story, as well as a call to action for every human who is longing to live authentically but is afraid of the cost.
