Sinossi

Since humanity's first steps in the Stone Age, Methuselah has harbored an ancient secret. Cursed by the shaman to witness the end of days, he searches in vain for a home, place to place, clan to clan, yearning to belong. First in prehistoric Africa and lately disillusioned with love for a hundred years in the New World, he learns all too well to guard his heart and hide his story. That changes when a car crash lands him in the hospital with a fractured skull. Doctors discover strange stem cells in his blood, promising cures and a fountain of youth. Methuselah faces choices of life and death.
Forced on the run again, he comforts himself by reliving a happier time, when he and Arrow, his first love, raft across the paleo-lake Makgadikgadi, which rested in those days on the vast Kalahari. In their age-old journey, the cavemen lovers find a place to call home and learn what it means to belong.
While Arrow's enlightened sensibilities get the two of them in trouble and challenge Methuselah's judgment, their adventures in an untamed world bring them together. When Methuselah's enduring youth reveals itself through the passing seasons, he and Arrow bravely face a dire reality.
From the distant past that lives inside Methuselah, Arrow's spirit reaches out, providing guidance for our threatened times. He gives Methuselah the strength to do the right thing and the courage to live his true self in the modern world. Arrow's memory opens Methuselah's heart and renews for him a hope of redemption in the arms of a caring man today. If only Methuselah permits himself to love once more.

Taylor Bennett wants his brother's best friends.

Taylor is the youngest of three kids. He's a cook, a plant dad, a devoted son, and in love with his brother's best friend. Both of his brothers' best friends, actually. But they're in a relationship with each other.

Damon Acosta is a pharmacist, an extrovert, an honorary member of the Bennett family, and best friend to Jonah Bennett. He's also a little in love with Taylor. Damon is in a relationship with Nash.

Nash Weaver is a writer, a hermit apartment dweller, begrudging gym-goer, and in love with Damon. Maybe also a bit in love with Taylor. He and Damon have always been willing to open their relationship for the right person. When it's clear that Damon is head over heels for Taylor, Nash gives them his blessing. Only it's not long before he finds out that Taylor is also into him.

Taylor knows how important Nash and Damon are to his brothers. He's a fool for being willing to risk it all, but Taylor has never let a little foolishness get in his way.

In the year leading up to the First World War, four people’s lives intertwine, only to be pulled apart. A landmark of gay and pacifist literature, Rose Allatini’s story foregrounding conscientious objectors and queer love amidst wartime turmoil was banned months after its publication.
At a countryside hotel, guests watch an amateur play. One of the actors, Antoinette de Courcy, is infatuated with Hester Cawthorn, a reserved and alluring woman. Dennis Blackwood, a gifted composer, is intrigued by Antoinette, sensing that they are alike. He meets Alan, and the two are instantly attracted to each other. Unlike Antoinette’s determined pursuit of Hester, Dennis wholly represses his sexuality. With the war looming, families are torn apart by personal politics: the men around Dennis embrace the patriotic cause and sign up to fight. Dennis, however, knows that embracing peace is the only possible way to live. He attempts to stamp out his powerful desire for Alan by focusing all attention on Antoinette. Yet this only leads to mutual unfulfilment, and understanding comes too late. Each day, as Dennis and others defend themselves in public court and private circles, the likelihood of forced enrolment or imprisonment grows.Despised and Rejected is part of the Persephone Audiobook Collection, a series of forgotten classics including neglected fiction and non-fiction by women writers. First published in 1918, this edition includes an afterword by Jonathan Cutbill and is narrated by Robyn Holdaway.
