'The Border Line' is unusual in that Lawrence dabbles in the supernatural (as he was to do again in 'The Rocking-Horse Winner' two years later) and that this is less a story in the traditional sense and more an exploration of the mind of a particular woman, based on his own wife, Frieda. Katherine, in the story, realises that her real love was her first husband whom she should, according to Lawrence, have submitted to to gain real happiness. As Lawrence says in the story, thinking of his German wife perhaps, 'Beyond all race is the problem of man and woman'.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize: “Uncannily perceptive stories written by an American from the viewpoint of Vietnamese citizens transplanted to Louisiana” (People).  A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain is Robert Olen Butler’s Pulitzer Prize–winning collection of lyrical and poignant stories about the aftermath of the Vietnam War and its enduring impact on the Vietnamese. Written in a soaring prose, Butler’s haunting and powerful stories blend Vietnamese folklore and contemporary American realities, creating a vibrant panorama that is epic in its scope. This new edition includes two previously uncollected stories—“Missing” and “Salem”—that brilliantly complete the collection’s narrative journey, returning to the jungles of Vietnam to explore the experiences of a former Vietcong soldier and an American MIA.   “Deeply affecting . . . A brilliant collection of stories about storytellers whose recited folklore radiates as implicit prayer . . . One of the strongest collections I’ve read in ages.” —Ann Beattie

Suku was very good in academics and had a curious mind that prompted him to explore unknowns with enthusiasm. Once, he got attracted to his fathers' beaming Parker pen that he found in his father's desk drawer and became tempted to take it to his school to impress his friends. That very day, he also carried a live beetle to school, encased in a box to try studying its behavior through the day and perhaps to catch few bits of advice about the insect from his biology teacher - Father Dyson. But things went out of control as his classmate – Mary Alva, became curious to know about both these curious collections.
The insect broke loose and created panic among the kids before jetting out of the window. The resultant commotion also threw the valuable pen somewhere under the desks, and Suku was bitter and anxious about losing both his valuables. That evening, Sukus' father came to enquire about his writing-pen, but a scared Suku could not admit the truth, and to the contrary, he tried pushing the blame onto his brother Ruku. Ruku, who was innocent and upright, became very upset. Suku became crestfallen after realizing his timidity, while Dr. Mukherjee felt sad since he expected one of his sons to admit his mistake as such accidents might have happened with anyone.
Did Suku manage to overcome his fear psychosis in admitting the truth, and what lessons did the two kids learn in the bargain??
Tune in to this all-time classic children's literature from the legendary Sanjib Chattopadhyay in yet another classic collection from the "MyStoryGenie" Bengali Audiobooks series.

Ambrose Gwinnett Bierce (1842-circa 1914) was an American author, journalist, short story writer and satirist who disappeared in 1913 under mysterious circumstances and was never seen again."The Moonlit Road" is a brilliant and eerie ghost story which recounts a terrible murder of a woman from three different viewpoints. First from the perspective of the son of the murdered woman. Second from the perspective of the murderer - the woman's husband whose brain has been so afflicted by the experience that he has amnesia and does not know his true identity. Third from the postumous perspective of the victim as told via a medium.

The poem begins with the beloved god Balder, thought to be invulnerable, dead at the hands of the inoffensive blind god Hoder, in a game. Loki, whose deceit brought about this catastrophe, is promptly punished with exile, and Odin, Balder's father, sponsors a heroic quest to rescue his son from the land of the dead. This desperate venture unexpectedly meets with partial success, a conditional agreement to release Balder if everyone in the land of the living mourns his death. And even though over every hope hangs the threat of the ultimate end of the reign of the Norse gods, the mother of the gods points out that "much must yet be tried which shall but fail." - Summary by T. A. Copeland
