Summary

When three ghost hunters vanish inside an abandoned maximum security hospital, Detective Ethan Reeves must confront a chilling truth – the paranormal has become real, and it's more terrifying than anyone imagined.

As Reeves delves into the hospital's dark past, he uncovers a legacy of unethical experiments and supernatural phenomena. Aided by his partner Alice Chen, the detective soon realizes the entire town of Daybridge is experiencing a reality shift, with once-impossible events becoming commonplace.

Faced with ghostly apparitions, temporal anomalies, and hints of something ancient and malevolent emerging from the spaces between thoughts, Reeves and his allies must master new ways of perceiving reality itself to solve the mystery and save the missing investigators.

But as the boundaries between possible and impossible blur, the team learns a staggering truth – that an entity has been patiently steering events from the shadows, wearing many faces as it prepares the way for a convergence that could reshape the nature of consciousness itself.

In this mind-bending thriller, nothing is as it seems, and the very fabric of reality will be tested as they race to uncover the truth before it's too late. Time is not just a dimension – it's the battlefield.

Deep Down is the chlling sequel to Wide Open, Deborah Coates's "refreshingly original dark fantasy debut" (Publishers Weekly). Now that she's solved her sister's murder, Hallie Michaels has left the army and isn't sure what to do next. Her relationship with deputy Boyd Davies is tentative, there's still distance between her and her father, and she needs a job. The good news is, she hasn't seen a ghost in weeks. All that changes when she gets a call asking her to help an elderly neighbor who is being stalked by black dogs, creatures from the underworld that are harbingers of death. When a black dog appears, Hallie learns, a reaper is sure to follow. And if the dark visions she's suddenly receiving are any indication, it looks like the reaper is now following her. Meanwhile, strange events herald the arrival of ghosts from Boyd's past, ghosts the young deputy isn't ready to face. Refusing Hallie's help, Boyd takes off to deal with the problem on his own, only to find that he's facing something much larger and more frightening than he'd imagined. Stalked by a reaper and plagued by dark visions, Hallie finds she must face her fears and travel into Death's own realm to save those she most loves.

“A delightful epic, filled with twists and treachery, and vividly told” from the New York Times–bestselling author of All the Broken Places (The Herald).

John Boyne became internationally known for his acclaimed novels Crippen and the bestselling The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Now, for the first time in the US comes The Thief of Time, the book that started the career of the author that the Irish Examiner calls “one of the best and original of the new generation of Irish writers.”

It is 1758 and Matthieu Zela is fleeing Paris after witnessing the murder of his mother and his stepfather’s execution. Matthieu’s life is characterized by one extraordinary fact: before the eighteenth century ends, he discovers that his body has stopped ageing. At the end of the twentieth century and the ripe old age of 256 he is suddenly forced to answer an uncomfortable question: what is the worth of immortality without love?

In this carefully crafted novel, The Thief of Time, John Boyne juxtaposes history and the buzz of the modern world, weaving together portraits of 1920s Hollywood, the Great Exhibition of 1851, the French Revolution, the Wall Street Crash, and other landmark events into one man’s story of murder, love, and redemption.

“Boyne is a skilful storyteller . . . The novel is superbly constructed.” —Sunday Tribune

“Boyne is creative and entertaining, particularly as he develops his characters.” —Library Journal

“One of the finest reads this reviewer has enjoyed in quite a while. It’s gripping without cliffhangers, philosophically deep without angst, honest and wise and absolutely charming. Bravo to Mr. Boyne—and when’s the next book?” —Historical Novel Society

Twin slaves. A divided city. A goddess’s wrath. The first novel from the author of the Tears of Artamon trilogy, “an innovative fantasist” (Asimov’s).

The once-wondrous land of Myn-Dhiel has suffered under the rule of the House of Memizhon. The decadent king and queen are slowly going insane, and the kingdom seems likely to sink under the weight of its decay.

Twins Lai and Laili have spent their quiet lives as initiates of the Goddess on the peaceful island of Ael Lahi. But when they are captured and sold as slaves in the city, Lai must learn to fight for his life in the Arena while Laili is forced into service as the Arkhan’s concubine.

The twins ultimately find their place in the intrigues and rivalries of the corrupt court. But discontent is simmering among the city’s oppressed people. When a mysterious cloud of moon moths brings a plague, revolution threatens to bring down the House of Memizhon. Wide Open by Deborah Coates is the first book in a series of "startlingly original" (Booklist) contemporary fantasy novels set against the sweeping prairies and desolate byways of the American Midwest, creating "a rural backwater where the normal and paranormal seamlessly merge." (Publishers Weekly) When Sergeant Hallie Michaels comes back to South Dakota from Afghanistan on ten days' compassionate leave, her sister Dell's ghost is waiting at the airport to greet her. The sheriff says that Dell's death was suicide, but Hallie doesn't believe it. Something happened or Dell's ghost wouldn't still be hanging around. Friends and family, mourning Dell's loss, think Hallie's letting her grief interfere with her judgment. The one person who seems willing to listen is the deputy sheriff, Boyd Davies, who shows up everywhere and helps when he doesn't have to. As Hallie asks more questions, she attracts new ghosts, women who disappeared without a trace. Soon, someone's trying to beat her up, burn down her father's ranch, and stop her investigation. Hallie's going to need Boyd, her friends, and all the ghosts she can find to defeat an enemy who has an unimaginable ancient power at his command. --Wide Open has been nominated for the Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in a First Novel, appeared on Locus Magazine's Recommended Reading List for first novels, and was chosen as a Tor.com Reviewer's Choice Pick for Favorite Book of the year. The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction claimed that it is "one of the best first novels I've read in a long time" and Library Journal agrees that "fans of urban fantasies should enjoy the kick-ass [heroine]."
