Sinossi

“Sadhana – The Realisation of Life” is a breathtaking collection of spiritual discourses given by Rabindranath Tagore. A repository of the timeless wisdom of the East, Sadhana is one of the most profound books on spirituality that you will ever read! We highly recommend it to any seeker of spiritual wisdom.

The book consists of eight essays, in which Tagore answers some of the most profound questions of life: Why did God create this world? Why would a Perfect Being, instead of remaining eternally concentrated in Himself, go through the trouble of manifesting the Universe? Why does evil exist? Do love and beauty have a purpose?

Tagore masterfully brings the spiritual truths behind these profound questions to light, with his lucid explanations of the Sanskrit verses of the Upanishads (Indian spiritual texts dating to ~800 B.C.) and the eternal teachings of Lord Jesus and Buddha.

Sadhana is one of those rare books that need to be read slowly, as each sentence contains an immense amount of wisdom to be digested!

In the end Tagore’s captivating and rational explanations will leave you feeling breathless, exhilarated and brimming with peace, happiness and joy, as you become aware of the tremendous unifying force behind this immensely diverse and awe-inspiring Creation!

What is faith? It usually means religious belief, and sometimes diverse religions are grouped together as "faiths," with reference to "faith leaders" or "faith schools." What we have faith in matters, and that involves our reason, involving claims to truths that affect everyone. Faith is not just a personal attribute, like tastes, but should be open to public examination and debate.

In this Very Short Introduction, Roger Trigg argues that all faith needs reason. He puts contemporary discussions into historical perspective, particularly in the context of Christianity. The author argues that faith also involves a commitment to action and that matters for all social life. Because religion is typically directed at what is seen as of crucial importance for human life, faith should not be marginalized or privatized. It will permeate every idea of how people should behave, and has a role in the public square, however respectful it should be to competing views within a democracy.

The etymology of the word fail is derived from the French word faillir, which means “almost to do.” Faillir is derived from the Latin word fallere, which means to deceive or lead into error. These definitions imply that when people fail, they do not follow through with their intentions, and those who believed that they would be in some way deceived.
People who experience failure can feel a sense of shame. This emotional response can cause them to suppress their feelings, deflect the responsibility of the failure, neglect to learn from the valuable lessons, and thwart the possibility for future success.
As Winston Churchill so eloquently said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

“It’s better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep.”"I am the most terrible animal that's ever existed.""Democracy is beautiful in theory; in practice, it is a fallacy. You in America will see that someday.""It's good to trust others but, not to do so is much better."“I feel, when we have no friends upon whom to lean, or to look for moral guidance." (Mussolini)Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini, born on July 29, 1883, who went by the nickname “Il Duce” (“the Leader”), was a deeply unbalanced tyrannical Italian dictator who created the dreaded Fascist Party in 1919. Eventually, he held all power in Italy as the country’s prime minister from 1922 to 1943. An ardent socialist as a youth, Mussolini followed in his father's political footsteps but was expelled by the party for his overt support of World War I. As an evil dictator during World War II (even murdering his own son by lethal injection) he greatly overextended his forces and was eventually killed by his own people in Mezzegra, Italy. Here, for the first time, are the words of the great dictator himself in his twisted manifesto on the political movement he started and is still so feared to this very day.

The word Upanishad (upa-ni-shad) consists of, "Upa" means "near;" "ni" means "down;" "shad" means "to sit." Thus, Upanishad is to sit down near the teacher to discuss, learn, practice, and experience. There are some 200 or more Upanishads. Some are lost and are only known about because of being referenced in other Upanishads. Most of the Upanishads were kept secret for centuries, only passed on to others orally in the form of Shloka (a category of verse line developed from the Vedic Anustubh meter).Prasna-Upanishad is one the 11 principal Upanishads dating from 6th BCE to the begning of the Common Era. Prasana means question in Sanskrit. This Upanisahad contains six questions posed by six pupils to Pipplalda and answers to them by Pipplada. The 11 principal Upanishads to which Sankara appeals in his great commentary on the Vedanta-Surtras are: Chandogya, Talavakara or Kena, Aitareya, Kaushitaki, Vajasaneyi or Isha, Katha, Mundaka, Taittirtiyaka or Taittiriya, Brihadaranyaka, Svetasvatara, and Prasna. They are also called the 11 classical Upanishads or the fundamental Upanishads of the Vedanta Philosophy. The Upanishadic literature is not a religious scripture and is free from dogma and doctrines. It is not a part of any religion but is a philosophy for all times and for all. German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, impressed by the Upanishads, called the texts "the production of the highest human wisdom". Summary by Jothi
