Stop worrying about taking notes, losing track of what you've learned or working out what to learn next. This course guides you through the Mandarin language step by step. Each new question adds a tiny building block to what you already know rather than introducing entirely new sentences and telling you to memorize them. Instead you can intuitively build up an understanding of the language through incremental logical steps. Each word introduced is repeated throughout the course using a spaced repetition system. That means first at roughly 10 seconds, then 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5, 10, 20, 40, 1 hour etc until it becomes become fixed in your mind. Sentences throughout the course deliberately make use of vocabulary you learned earlier, so words are naturally revised without a deliberate focus on doing so.Grammar, tones and pronunciation are all taught but never drilled. Instead they are incorporated into each question.

We broke our new series on learning Japanese down into different learning stages. Start with the “Lower Beginner” books followed by the “Beginner” and “Upper Beginner” books. Next, progress to the “Intermediate” series, then test and reinforce your knowledge with the “Conversations” series. This audiobook is divided into units. While it provides different learning patterns and accommodates various needs, this audiobook focuses on helping you improve your ability to understand, speak, and memorise Japanese. The sample will give you a taste of what you can look forward to.
In Unit 1 you will hear Japanese decoded with each syllable spoken very slowly and clearly with repetition. Immediately before each sentence is spoken, you will hear the translation, so you will always understand what is being said. Unit 2 focuses solely on increasing your listening ability, which will improve your abilities to engage in dialogue with a native Japanese speaker. This chapter requires you to listen very carefully to nuances in the language.
By Unit 3 you will already notice progress in your abilities to speak and understand Japanese. The spoken translation is followed by two repetitions in Japanese at a completely natural speed. While you are learning to process naturally spoken Japanese, Units 3 and 4 will help you memorise new vocabulary and full sentences. In Unit 5 you can test yourself on how much you have learned. If you are having difficulties, we suggest you revisit the listening, speaking, or memorisation section of Units 1, 2 3 or 4, according to what you need more help with.

While there are plenty of books about the mechanics of writing, this is the first time an insider has detailed the invaluable TV executive perspective. As key pieces of the entertainment puzzle, executives hold institutional wisdom that seldom gets disseminated outside network walls. The Executive Chair breaks down the business from the gatekeeper’s point of view, illuminating the creative process used by those who ultimately make the decisions. Whether developing a project for the entertainment marketplace or merely probing the executive mindset, The Executive Chair dispels myths about the creative process and takes listeners through the development of a pilot script.

  • Enough Is Enuf - Our Failed Attempts to Make English Easier to Spell - cover

Enough Is Enuf - Our Failed...

    Gabe Henry

A brief and humorous 500-year history of the Simplified Spelling Movement from advocates like Ben Franklin, C. S. Lewis, and Mark Twain to texts and Twitter.
Why does the G in George sound different from the G in gorge? Why does C begin both case and cease? And why is it funny when a philologist faints, but not polight to laf about it? Anyone who has ever had the misfortune to write in English has, at one time or another, struggled with its spelling.
So why do we continue to use it? If our system of writing words is so tragically inconsistent, why haven’t we standardized it, phoneticized it, brought it into line? How many brave linguists have ever had the courage to state, in a declaration of phonetic revolt: “Enough is enuf”?
The answer: many. In the comic annals of linguistic history, legions of rebel wordsmiths have died on the hill of spelling reform, risking their reputations to bring English into the realm of the rational. This book is about them: Mark Twain, Ben Franklin, Eliza Burnz, C. S. Lewis, George Bernard Shaw, Charles Darwin, and the innumerable others on both sides of the Atlantic who, for a time in their life, became fanatically occupied with writing thru instead of through, tho for though, laf for laugh, beleev for believe, and dawter for daughter (and tried futilely to get everyone around them to do it too).
Henry takes his humorous and informative chronicle right up to today as the language seems to naturally be simplifying to fit the needs of our changing world thanks to technology—from texting to Twitter and emojis, the Simplified Spelling Movement may finally be having its day.
