Sinossi

Ona Judge: I Am Free is a re-imagined account of a true and painful story with a soul, told generations on. It tells the story of Ona Judge, known as Oney, Martha Washington’s ‘favorite servant,’ in Oney’s own words.

At the height of George Washington's presidency, Oney boldly defied orders and expectations, slipping past the watchful eyes of the nation's capital and finding refuge in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Despite their best efforts to reclaim her, Oney remained a specter of freedom that eluded the Washingtons.

Embracing a life of liberty, Oney navigated trials and tribulations, from marrying sailor Jack Staines to enduring life's profound losses, yet always maintaining and cherishing her freedom. In the face of adversity and poverty, Oney's resilient spirit and declaration in 1847, “I am free now and choose to remain so,” stands as a testament to her unbreakable will.

In a modern world where cultures and histories collide, this novel is a timely reminder of perspectives that we may have become blind to.

When a fire at Zagreb’s Three Palms café tragically takes the life of the owner’s son, everyone joins the search for a culprit. And there can only be one: the young Roma man—Enis—employed as a waiter at the café.With all eyes on him, Enis is forced to flee, his face looming large on the front page of every newspaper and channel. The only place where he can think to take refuge is in Bosnia, in the settlement where his estranged father lives. Meanwhile, the event, which coincides with the outbreak of the wars of the 1990s in the former Yugoslavia, draws a crowd to surround the Roma settlement in Zagreb, turning it into a ghetto. The protesters blame the Roma collectively, seeing danger in their differences.Weaving between Zagreb and Bosnia, between past and present, between a Roma ghetto in the heart of Zagreb and the lesser-known ghettos of the Roma Holocaust (or Porajmos), and between an imagined better life and the blaring trumpets of war in reality, Nebojša Lujanović’s Cloud the Color of Skin tells a story of guilt and justice, victimhood and violence, peacetime and war—and the Roma in the midst of it all.The book Cloud the Color of Skin was published as part of the Growing Together project, co-financed by the European Union.

They were innocent men, slaughtered in the Rockies. A party of land surveyors who met their grisly fate at the hands of the Crow Indians—or so it seems. Some folks think the story is a lie. And now it's up to US Army Lieutenant Ron Stanton to figure out what really happened up there in those desolate, blood-soaked mountains. As his guides, Preacher and Jamie McCallister agree to retrace the footsteps of the doomed party—come hell or high water—but first they'll have to pass through a particularly nasty piece of purgatory known as Fort Buzzard . . .

Fort Buzzard—officially Gullickson's Fort—earned its nefarious nickname because of the human vultures it attracts. Namely the brutes and brawlers hired by Gullickson to protect his interests. When a nearby trading post is suddenly attacked—and two young women carried off by Indians—Preacher and McCallister smell a rat. The Crows swear they're not responsible for the attack, the abduction, or the mountain party massacre. Preacher and McCallister believe them—but proving it won't be easy. This road to justice only leads to more dead ends—and the biggest, bloodiest showdown in Rocky Mountain history . . .
