Sinossi

New York Times bestseller: A New Year’s Eve suicide in a Newport mansion could be hiding a sinister family conspiracy.   Was it fear of scandal, threat of disgrace, or loss of his job that drove Rhode Island newspaper magnate Adam Keene to take his own life? His daughter, Christy, refuses to accept her father’s death as a suicide. When she returns to her mother-in-law Theodora’s stately Newport mansion, Christy is determined to find out who killed her father—and why.   But once behind the walls of Spindrift, Christy finds that the sprawling estate is more than just a tomb of tragic memories and closely guarded secrets. Christy’s husband and son are slowly falling under the influence of the ruthless and domineering Theo. For Christy, the matriarch’s endgame is as unknowable as it is terrifying. Now, as Christy searches for the truth of the past in the dark shadows of Spindrift, she will become trapped in a web of lies only another murder could conceal.   A recipient of the Agatha Award for Lifetime Achievement, Phyllis A. Whitney is the Edgar Award–winning “queen of the American gothics” (The New York Times).  This ebook features an illustrated biography of Phyllis A. Whitney including rare images from the author’s estate.

They arrive alive. They leave dead. But first, they give me their confessions.
These are the deathbed confessions of my patients.
This one you're about to listen to is for PATIENT #1024. He's known on my ward as The Chef and he has an interesting...appetite.
Fans of Stephen King, Joe Hill and like to read books like The Bird Box, The Haunting and can't get enough stories about serial killers are going to enjoy reading the deathbed confessions from The Asylum.
My name is Jack Steen and for those who arrive on my 'death' ward at the Asylum, I'm the last face many will see before they die. I am the night nurse at the Asylum for the Criminally Insane.
Most of my patients are serial killers and mass murderers and they know me as the Angel of Death.
When they come onto my floor, I offer a deal: tell me their story, their 'untold' story that hasn't been read about in the news, sensationalized by media or cataloged in a ridiculous number of academic papers. I want the real story - the one they haven't old anyone. Some of these killers have never confessed to their crimes, some kept certain information to themselves...those are the stories I want.
If they give them to me, I'll make their death...easier. They're already dying, that's why they're now my patients. If they play nice, I can make their death less painful. But only if they play nice and tell me their confessions.
The majority of these killers are expert manipulators. I realize they could be playing me and messing with my head. It's a chance I'm willing to take.
And now...they might just be playing with yours too.

In Black River Forest, it’s best not to wander too far off the beaten track. There’s no telling what you might find.
Mia and Oliver have long wanted to explore the forest, and one cold, rainy October day, a week before their fifth anniversary of the day they met, they finally make the trip.
But they’ve heard the rumors as well. The haunting. A psychopath hidden somewhere amidst the towering trees. Too many missing. Too few answers.
It’s only rumors, though. Stories. And stories can’t hurt you. Yet as Mia and Oliver venture deeper into the Black River Forest, they’ll soon discover that there’s more haunting this quiet woodland than hikers and bears.
The psychopath is very real. And he’s excited to meet them.
From Jaydeep Shah, author of Tribulation, the first book of the Cops Planet series, “The Haunting of Black River Forest” is a bloody, spine-chilling story best read with the lights on.
