Sinossi

The girl who was to be named Phillis Wheatley was captured in West Africa in 1761 and taken to Boston by slave traders. She proved to be a precocious child and by the age of eighteen, she had produced a collection of impressive poems. With the 1773 publication of ‘Poems on Various Subjects’, Wheatley became the most famous African on the face of the earth. Today, critics regard her work as fundamental to the genre of African-American literature, and she is honoured as the first African-American woman to publish a book of poetry and the first to make a living from her writing. Begin with a Question explores how the life of faith is a continuous voyage, launched anew each bright day of the spirit or dark night of the soul. This is a book of contemplation and motion, a journey—often in stops and starts—toward the Divine, a pilgrimage paved with prayer, praise, pause, penitence, and (of course) questions. Urgent and universal, joyful or joyless, tinged with doubt or rinsed with hope, here are honest queries that probe, lift, and lead to discovery.

Begin with a Question keeps us moving, seeking, reaching, lifting us out of ourselves to something beyond. Using a variety of fixed forms and free verse, the poet examines our relationship to the one who asks, "Who do you say that I am?" A book for seekers, doubters, and believers alike, these poems bring us face to face with anguish, anger, awe, and adoration. They give us permission not to demand answers, but to follow the questions that lead to the Alpha and Omega, to the I AM that keeps us spiraling along this twisting path toward God.

Begin with a Question is published under Paraclete Press's "Iron Pen" imprint. In the book of Job, a suffering man pours out his anguish to his Maker. From the depths of his pain, he reveals a trust in God's goodness that is stronger than his despair, giving humanity some of the most beautiful and poetic verses of all time. Paraclete's Iron Pen imprint is inspired by this spirit of unvarnished honesty and tenacious hope.

The Tempest is a play by English playwright William Shakespeare, probably written in 1610-1611, and thought to be one of the last plays that Shakespeare wrote alone. After the first scene, which takes place on a ship at sea during a tempest, the rest of the story is set on a remote island, where the sorcerer Prospero, a complex and contradictory character, lives with his daughter Miranda, and his two servants: Caliban, a savage monster figure, and Ariel, an airy spirit. The play contains music and songs that evoke the spirit of enchantment on the island. It explores many themes, including magic, betrayal, revenge, and family. In Act IV, a wedding masque serves as a play-within-a-play, and contributes spectacle, allegory, and elevated language.
Although The Tempest is listed in the First Folio as the first of Shakespeare's comedies, it deals with both tragic and comic themes, and modern criticism has created a category of romance for this and others of Shakespeare's late plays. The Tempest has been put to varied interpretations, from those that see it as a fable of art and creation, with Prospero representing Shakespeare, and Prospero's renunciation of magic signaling Shakespeare's farewell to the stage, to interpretations that consider it an allegory of Europeans colonizing foreign lands.

Poems exploring our most fragile points of connection to lovers and family, to the living and the dead, and to oneself, one's own life's work--with the care and wisdom of one who knows these roads.'Silently / pulling for itself, / the will wants the body to // give it what it wants,' Sexton writes in 'Between the Car and the Sea,' at once a description of a carís body propelling her onward, and of the poet herself, the one behind the wheel of this masterful fourth collection. In an extraordinary act of volition, the author does not stop at the trope of ambition, but powers instead toward the urgent concerns of the will, and intention.

this volume of the 10 volume series is subtitled "Tales of Horror and Death"
    - includes some of Poe's most famous works including "The Pit and the Pendulum", "The Cask of Amontillado", "The Fall of the House of Usher" and 10 others
Acclaimed American writer, Edgar Allan Poe (1809 to 1849) was known particularly for his mysteries and tales of the macabre. He was one of the country's earliest practitioners of the short story, and is considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre.
Poe's father abandoned the family when he was just 1 year old and his mother died the following year. He was taken in by John and Frances Allan and lived with them into young adulthood. Poe attended the University of Virginia but had to leave due to lack of money. He quarreled with John Allan over the lack of funds for his education. In 1827, Poe enlisted in the United States Army under an assumed name and also published his first collection. Poe failed as an officer cadet at West Point, decided to be a full-time writer, and thus the relationship with the Allans was severed.
