Sinossi

A ten-hour drive, a relationship on the rocks, and a ghost waiting for company on a lonely stretch of road.
The last thing Alex wants is a trip home with his boyfriend in tow, but when Brendan insists on coming there's nothing for it but a ten hour drive and the dread of what might happen when they reach their destination.
There is nothing about the idea of being trapped in car with his lover that Alex is looking forward too, but a haunted stretch of lonely road is about to make him question everything he knows about his relationship and his life.
A White Cross Beside A Lonely Road is the third short story in the Short Fiction Lab series from Brain Jar Press—home to stand-alone short story experiments in fantasy, science fiction, horror, and fabulist literature. This experiment has been filed under: ghost stories, outback fantasy, supernatural encounters, and Austrlaian weirdness.
Disponibile da: 31/07/2019.

Gary Budden's debut collection blends the traditions of weird fiction and landscape writing in an interlinked set of stories from the emotional geographies of London, Kent, Finland and a place known as the Hollow Shore. The Hollow Shore is both fictional and real. It is a place where flowers undermine railway tracks, relationships decay and monsters lurk. It is the shoreline of a receeding, retreating England. This is where things fall apart, waste away and fade from memory. Finding horror and ecstasy in the mundane, Hollow Shores follows characters on the cusp of change in broken-down environments and the landscapes of the mind.

Venice, an evocative and bewitching city of canals, art, romance, and . . . murder.

Irish born fashion model Sibeal “Beth” Getty’s sixth sense never issued a warning that her romantic honeymoon in Venice would be derailed by a murder. Beth’s discovery of a body floating in a canal with a carnival mask glued to the victim’s face was bad enough, but when her detective husband warns her to leave the investigation to the police, she becomes more determined to unravel the puzzle. She believes the mask is sending a cryptic message—but to whom—and does the intriguing tattoo on the dead man’s arm offer a hint? Knowing that meddling in the case will cause marital friction, Beth cannot abandon the call of her gift—her fey—her second sight which is signaling her to join the search for the elusive killer.

It’s not long before another murder occurs with the same haunting mask, but this time the victim isn’t a stranger. This death hits close to home and heightens Beth’s resolve to unravel the mystery surrounding the homicides. She navigates twisting back alleys and meandering waterways in search for clues while trusting her intuition for guidance. She comes up empty until she stumbles across items belonging to both victims. A hunch takes a menacing turn as she embarks upon a harrowing ordeal that leads to a head-on confrontation with the killer.

Will Beth’s fate be sealed to a watery grave with her face obscured by a carnival mask?
