Sinossi

Doing things you hate is a rare skill — and the only one that guarantees your life doesn’t turn into a dumpster fire.

Look, anyone can binge Netflix or rewatch cat videos. But scrubbing toilets, sorting taxes, slogging through workouts, or having that uncomfortable conversation?

That’s advanced-level adulting. And it’s exactly what separates people who quietly win at life from those who keep circling the drain.

Growth doesn’t come from comfort. It comes from sucking it up and charging headfirst into everything you’d rather avoid.

How To Do Boring, Tedious, Difficult, but Necessary Things: The Art of Sucking It Up and Doing Things You Hate is your no-BS manual for building the self-discipline muscle.

You’ll learn how to stop whining, start moving, and do the hard, ugly, necessary stuff that future-you will thank you for (once they stop cursing you).

This isn’t easy. If it were, everyone would have six-pack abs, zero debt, and a color-coded closet. Are you tough enough to handle discomfort without tapping out? Can you find the grit to power through tasks that bore or terrify you?

After this book, you’ll be able to answer: HELL YES.

Self-discipline is the one habit that stacks everything else on top.Written with sharp humor, psychological insights, and the occasional loving slap to the face, this book shows you how to:

• Pinpoint your personal brand of laziness — and hack it• Harness discomfort with daily exercises that turn “ugh” into “done”• Master the 90-second rule to stop emotional spirals before they start• Escape the doom loop of procrastination that’s quietly wrecking your goals• Set up your day like an elite performer so even the boring stuff gets crushed automatically

Not just more productivity — but a life where your to-do list finally fears you.

Pick it up. Read it. And start doing the boring, tedious, difficult, but absolutely necessary things — like a boss.

From the cofounder of the Amazon Labor Union, a definitive how-to guide to workplace organizing told through a David vs. Goliath chronicle for the ages. On April 1, 2022, the Amazon warehouse known as JFK8, in Staten Island, notched an improbable victory when its workers voted to become the company’s first unionized facility. Miraculously, a completely self-taught and worker-led union had defeated one of the most powerful corporations on the planet. In the aftermath, two of the founders of the Amazon Labor Union, Derrick Palmer and Chris Smalls, began traveling across the country to help workers at Amazon and other corporations form their own unions. Unsurprisingly, nearly everyone they met had the same question: How did they do it? In Handbook for the Revolution, Derrick Palmer, who continues to work at JFK8, provides the answer in the form of a how-to guide to organizing in today’s workplace while providing gripping, never before-told anecdotes from the ALU's fight and its plans for the future. Practical, philosophical, and full of personality, Palmer’s manual-cum-manifesto is an accessible step-by-step playbook for the often contentious and complex process of unionization, and a powerful call for equality—and greater understanding—through worker solidarity. Full of hard-won lessons and personal experience, and written in the context of mass consolidation, fluctuating labor laws, and an ever widening wealth gap, Handbook for the Revolution is an invaluable resource for the modern labor movement, a thrilling chronicle of persistence, and an inspiring push for change in the workplace—and beyond.

In 2014 Sonya Bilocerkowycz is a tourist at a deadly revolution. At first she is enamored with the Ukrainians' idealism, which reminds her of her own patriotic family. But when the romantic revolution melts into a war with Russia, she becomes disillusioned, prompting a return home to the US and the diaspora community that raised her. As the daughter of a man who studies Ukrainian dissidents for a living, the granddaughter of war refugees, and the great-granddaughter of a gulag victim, Bilocerkowycz has inherited a legacy of political oppression. But what does it mean when she discovers a missing page from her family's survival story—one that raises questions about her own guilt?

In these linked essays, Bilocerkowycz invites listeners to meet a swirling cast of post-Soviet characters, including a Russian intelligence officer who finds Osama bin Laden a few weeks after 9/11; a Ukrainian poet whose nose gets broken by Russian separatists; and a long-lost relative who drives a bus into the heart of Chernobyl. On Our Way Home from the Revolution muddles our easy distinctions between innocence and culpability, agency and fate.

    Thomas Paine: Common Sense -...

Common Sense is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in 1775–76 that inspired people in the Thirteen Colonies to declare and fight for independence from Great Britain in the summer of 1776. In clear, simple language it explained the advantages of and the need for immediate independence. It was published anonymously on January 10, 1776, at the beginning of the American Revolution and became an immediate sensation. It was sold and distributed widely and read aloud at taverns and meeting places. Washington had it read to all his troops, which at the time had surrounded the British army in Boston. In proportion to the population of the colonies at that time (2.5 million), it had the largest sale and circulation of any book published in American history.
Common Sense presented the American colonists with an argument for freedom from British rule at a time when the question of whether or not to seek independence was the central issue of the day. Paine wrote and reasoned in a style that common people understood. Forgoing the philosophical and Latin references used by Enlightenment era writers, he structured Common Sense as if it were a sermon, and relied on Biblical references to make his case to the people. He connected independence with common dissenting Protestant beliefs as a means to present a distinctly American political identity. Historian Gordon S. Wood described Common Sense as "the most incendiary and popular pamphlet of the entire revolutionary era".
