Sinossi

VALLON came out of his bedroom; closed the door; stood for a moment in the corridor. The scent hit his nostrils— Narcisse Noir. Vallon, who had a nose for perfume, wondered when he had last smelt Narcisse Noir. He thought it might have been in Paris. He wasn't certain. He walked slowly down the curving staircase into the hotel lounge; stood at the bottom looking about him, watching the people.
He wore a dark blue, double-breasted suit that had been cut by a good tailor, a cream shirt, a blue tie. He was just under six feet and thin. His face was long, triangular shaped; his eyes sombre, deepset but with a sardonic light lurking in them. He was dark and his well-kept hair was inclined to wave. He weighed a hundred and seventy pounds and kept his weight well forward on the balls of his feet like a boxer. He looked tired.
Everything about Vallon was quiet. He moved lazily; talked in a quiet voice with a peculiarly attractive timbre to it. He preferred to remain unnoticed but never succeeded in this. In spite of himself an odd and engaging personality came out of him and affected most people with whom he came in contact. Especially women. Women found him fascinating because he never tried to be like that. He had spent a considerable portion of his life trying to avoid them. With little success.

The world fell away in a sudden, gut-wrenching plunge.
Ethan Ross was never a good flyer, but nothing could have prepared him for the nightmare of Celestial Airlines Flight 815. When a routine flight turns into a violent descent into chaos, Ethan finds himself at the center of a mystery that defies the laws of physics and the boundaries of reality.
Amidst the groaning metal and the screams of the terrified, one detail stands out—the empty seat beside him. Seat 14B. It was supposed to be just another passenger, a stranger in the night. Instead, it becomes the gateway to a chilling revelation. As investigator Frank Thompson picks through the wreckage in a cold, muddy field, he discovers that some stories don't end with a crash.
Seat 14B is a haunting exploration of fate, cycles of terror, and the thin veil between our world and something far more ancient and hungry. In this masterfully crafted supernatural thriller, Tabitha Monroe invites you to buckle up for a journey where the destination is never what it seems, and the ending is only the beginning of a thousand more nightmares.

The "master of . . . cerebral puzzle mysteries" sends his Yorkshire detectives back to college to be taught a lesson in murder (The New York Times).

Reginald Hill "raised the classical British mystery to new heights" when he introduced pugnacious Yorkshire Det. Inspector Andrew Dalziel and his partner, the callow Sgt. Peter Pascoe (The New York Times Book Review). Their chafing differences in education, manners, technique, and temperament made them "the most remarkable duo in the annals of crime fiction" (Toronto Star). The Gold Dagger Award–winning series was adapted into a long-running hit show for the BBC.

If Alison Girling, former principal of England's Holm Coultram College, died in an avalanche in Austria, why has her skeleton been unearthed on campus? While no love is lost between conservative detective Andrew Dalziel and the entirety of Liberal Arts, his attention to the grim discovery must be paid. But when he and Peter Pascoe scour the ivory tower for answers, they discover that the shady faculty and creepy student body have more to bury than just one corpse. Try two—and counting. As Pascoe is sidelined by an old college flame, Dalziel's suspicions of academia are becoming dire. Because the deeper he digs for secrets, the dirtier they get in this "steadily, edgily amusing . . . dark comedy" (Kirkus Reviews).
