Sinossi

The history of physics has culminated in the beginning of the 20th century in quantum physics, a spectacular successful branch of science, but surrounded by more questions than answers. Reports in the media of the outcome of quantum physical experiments are usually difficult to fathom, shock the reader in his certainties about the world and prove to be grounded in scientific dogmas. Matter is not what it seems. However, the scientific paradigm is tipping over and many physicists are beginning to recognize that the researcher plays a greater role than previously was thought. His consciousness has a major influence on his results in his experiments. This gives rise to a completely different view on consciousness. The most important experiment in quantum physics is the so-called double slit experiment. Fortunately, understanding that experiment and its conclusions are not limited to mathematical geniuses. It is not even necessary to use mathematical formulas to understand quantum physics and its implications. This book contains a short crash course in quantum physics and a selection of published essays by the author on quantum physics and the mind.

Stress Nation provides answers to the lingering questions many people have about why they constantly feel tired, lonely, anxious, disconnected, and unwell, explaining in both humorous and poignant prose how the technology that was supposed to make our lives easier is actually one of the leading causes of chronic stress, dysregulated cortisol, and dangerously inadequate sleep. Equal parts commentary and practical guide, this book offers solutions that empower listeners to manage their stress, improve their sleep, and implement scientifically supported methods to break the cycle of device addiction.

In this book, listeners will discover:How cortisol―the Master Hormone and your body's overworked alarm system―can become dangerously imbalanced, ruin your health, and leave you feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. How Silicon Valley went for your attention instead of your well-being—and how that's warped the way we sleep, date, parent, and even think.Practical ways to unplug, reconnect, and start living like a human again—not a device-controlled zombie.

Stress Nation is both your wake-up call and game plan that delivers on its promise of a clearer mind, healthier body, and better life.

Owning the Sun tells the story of one of the most contentious fights in human history: the legal right to control the production of lifesaving medicines. Medical science began as a discipline geared toward the betterment of all human life, but the merging of research with intellectual property and the rise of the pharmaceutical industry warped and eventually undermined its ethical foundations. Why does the US government fund the development of medical science in the name of the public, only to relinquish exclusive rights to drug companies, and how does such a system impoverish us, weaken our responses to global crises, and, as in the case of AIDS and COVID-19, put the world at risk?

Outlining how generations of public health and science advocates have attempted to hold the line against Big Pharma and their allies in government, Alexander Zaitchik's first-in-kind history documents the rise of medical monopoly in the United States and its subsequent globalization. From the controversial arrival of patent-wielding German drug firms in the late nineteenth century, to present-day coordination between industry and philanthropic organizations—including the influential Gates Foundation—that stymie international efforts to vaccinate the world against COVID-19, Owning the Sun tells one of the most important and least understood histories of our time.

The lie of the land: that Britain’s landowners care for the countryside.
Our landowning elite are paid billions of taxpayer pounds to be good stewards. But these same landowners have carelessly trampled over our best-loved landscapes, leaving the rivers polluted, fenlands drained, and moorlands burned.
Guy Shrubsole has travelled across Britain to expose the lie and meet the communities fighting back to restore our lost landscapes. This is a bold, shared vision for our nation’s wild places, and how we can treat them with the awe and care they deserve.

    African Artificial Intelligence...

Artificial intelligence (AI) is upending life, work, and play as we know it, and it's only just getting started. The rise of AI is a milestone on par with the discovery of fire, the invention of the wheel, and the creation of the internet. In short, AI is going to change everything. For some, that's an exciting prospect. For others, it's terrifying. However you feel about AI, there's no escaping it, whether you're in a global metropolis or a farmer in rural KwaZulu-Natal.
Dr Mark Nasila has been watching AI's ascent for over a decade, studying its effects on everything from agriculture and aviation to healthcare, education, entertainment, crime prevention, energy management, policy creation, finance, and anything in between, and applying them to his role at one of South Africa's most successful financial institutions, First National Bank, a division of FirstRand Group.
African Artificial Intelligence is a comprehensive and fascinating journey, tracing the rise of AI and its evolution into the emerging technology underpinning all others – from connected devices and smart chatbots to the metaverse. Mark combines unexpected use cases and tales of cutting-edge innovation with a unique and potent argument: harnessing AI to solve Africa's problems requires embracing it from an African perspective.
African nations can't afford to simply import AI solutions from afar. Instead, Mark contends, they need to rework, remix, and refine AI so it's able to meet uniquely African challenges in uniquely African ways, and to take advantage of the once-in-a-generation opportunity AI represents for every industry, sector, and person, everywhere.
