Apocalyptic futures surround us. In films, books and in news feeds, we are subjected to a barrage of end-time possibilities. Award-winning writer Hedley Twidle, in quixotic mood, sets out to snatch utopia from the jaws of dystopia.

Whether embarking on a bizarre quest to find Cecil Rhodes's missing nose (sliced off the bust of the Rhodes Memorial) or cycling the Scottish islands with a couple of squabbling anarchists; whether learning to surf (much too late) in the wild, freezing waters off the Cape Peninsula or navigating the fraught polities of a Buddhist retreat centre, the author explores forgotten utopias, intentional communities and islands of imagination with curiosity, hope and humour.

Ranging from the science fiction of Ursula Le Guin to the 'living laboratory' of Auroville in south India, Show Me the Place investigates the deep human desire to imagine alternatives to what we take as normal or inevitable.

We all have a typical image of Vikings, from the horns on their helmets to the beards and the clothes they wear. Their ships have a certain charm, and their reputation is that they were brutal, raw, and believed in multiple gods.
The Vikings traveled during the Mediterranean, North Africa, the Middle East, and The U.S.A. And Canada. That period is acknowledged as the Viking Age in parts of the countries where they robbed and settled, and the name "Viking" is also used to describe the population of the Scandinavian homelands as a whole. The early middle ages history of Scandinavia, the British Isles, France, Estonia, and Kievan Rus' was exceptionally impacted by the Vikings.
In this comprehensive guide, we will explore some of the details about the Viking history. What did they do? How did they treat their women? Where did they go to conquer other nations? These are some of the questions we will answer.

Mary Frances Butts was born on 13th December 1890 in Poole, Dorset.
Her early years were spent at Salterns, an 18th-century house overlooking Poole Harbour. Sadly in 1905 her father died, and she was sent for boarding at St Leonard's school for girls in St Andrews.
Her mother remarried and, from 1909, Mary studied at Westfield College in London, and here, first became aware of her bisexual feelings. She was sent down for organising a trip to Epsom races and only completed her degree in 1914 when she graduated from the London School of Economics. By then Mary had become an admirer of the occultist Aleister Crowley and she was given a co-authorship credit on his ‘Magick (Book 4)’.
In 1916, she began the diary which would now detail her future life and be a constant reference point for her observations and her absorbing experiences.
During World War I, she was doing social work for the London County Council in Hackney Wick, and involved in a lesbian relationship. Life changed after meeting the modernist poet, John Rodker and they married in 1918.
In 1921 she spent 3 months at Aleister Crowley's Abbey of Thelema in Sicily; she found the practices dreadful and also acquired a drug habit. Mary now spent time writing in Dorset, including her celebrated book of short stories ‘Speed the Plough’ which saw fully develop her unique Modernist prose style.
Europe now beckoned and several years were spent in Paris befriending many artists and writing further extraordinary stories.
She was continually sought after by literary magazines and also published several short story collections as books. Although a Modernist writer she worked in other genres but is essentially only known for her short stories. Mary was deeply committed to nature conservation and wrote several pamphlets attacking the growing pollution of the countryside.
In 1927, she divorced and the following year her novel ‘Armed with Madness’ was published. A further marriage followed in 1930 and time was spent attempting to settle in London and Newcastle before setting up home on the western tip of Cornwall. By 1934 the marriage had failed.
Mary Butts died on 5th March 1937, at the West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance, after an operation for a perforated gastric ulcer. She was 46.

As a college dropout and part-time restaurant worker in downtown Toronto, Kevin is stuck in a rut. He wanders the city aimlessly and lives a solitary life while his mental health steadily declines. After reconnecting with an old college crush, he gets strung along by her once again while simultaneously getting initiated into an underground group of pickup artists promising him a remedy for his romantic frustration. Kevin comes out of his shell for what feels like the first time, giving up self-control to his newfound identity. He meets new people, learns how to seduce women, and lives what appears to be an exciting, City Boy life. That is until this emotionally confusing process stimulates a thoroughly destructive addictive personality.
FIX: An Untold Story of Obsession, Seduction, Addiction, & Despair is the memoir of author Kevin Luke's time spiraling into self-destruction through ruminating on feelings of anxiety, guilt, and suicidal ideation, all while managing his high-functioning mania.
Sourced from old journal entries and audio recordings left as streams of consciousness meant only for himself, Kevin wrote this book during a cathartic frenzy amid his darkest depressive episode experienced in years. A rare insight into the untreated bipolar mind, readers now get a voyeuristic glimpse into the author's scattered quest for self-improvement.
