Sinossi

Continental philosophy is a broad and diverse movement in philosophy that originated in continental Europe in the 19th century. It is characterized by its focus on the human condition, its rejection of traditional metaphysics, and its emphasis on interpretation and hermeneutics.

This book provides a comprehensive introduction to continental philosophy, covering its key themes and ideas, its major thinkers, and its influence on a wide range of disciplines.

The book begins by examining the absurdist outlook, which argues that life is fundamentally meaningless and that the search for meaning is futile. We then turn to the existentialist angst, which is a feeling of anxiety and dread that arises from the awareness of our own freedom and responsibility.

Next, we explore the phenomenological method, which is a way of studying the world through direct experience. We then examine the hermeneutic circle, which is the idea that interpretation is always influenced by our own pre-understandings and biases.

Finally, we conclude by considering the future of continental philosophy. We discuss some of the new directions that continental philosophy is taking, such as the post-continental turn, the new materialisms, and the speculative realisms.

This book is an essential resource for anyone who wants to understand continental philosophy. It is also a valuable resource for students of literature, art, and social theory, as well as for anyone who is interested in the most important questions of life.

"On the Soul" is a philosophical treatise written by Aristotle in the 4th century BC. The book is focused on the nature of the soul and its relationship to the body, as well as the various faculties of the soul such as perception, thought, and desire. The majority of the book is devoted to the discussion of the various faculties of the soul. Aristotle examines perception, memory, imagination, and thought in detail, and argues that these faculties are interconnected and form a hierarchy of cognitive processes. He also discusses the role of desire in human behavior, and how it relates to the other faculties of the soul. Read in English, unabridged.

    China's Foreign Policy...

Throughout the post–Mao reform era, China has championed the principle of sovereign state control, which holds that states should not intervene in the affairs of other states. Yet as Tim Nicholas Rühlig argues in China's Foreign Policy Contradictions, in recent years they have not actually acted this way. Chinese foreign policy actions fail to match up with official rhetoric, and these inconsistencies—in combination with China's growing power—will have dramatic effects on the future shape of international order.

To explain these contradictions, Rühlig draws from in-depth interviews with party-state officials to explain the foreign policy dynamics and processes of the normally opaque Chinese party-state. He demonstrates how different sources of the Chinese Communist Party's domestic legitimacy compete within the complex and highly fragmented Chinese party-state, resulting in contradictory foreign policies. He focuses on three issue areas: international human rights law and "responsibility to protect" (R2P); China's role in World Trade Organization (WTO) policymaking; and China's evolving relationship with Hong Kong.

In this work, Rühlig shows not only why China's foreign policy is so inconsistent, but why it is likely to contribute to a more particularistic, plural, and fragmented international order in the years to come.

An analysis of religious beliefs in general, this volume is in particular directed against theological Christianity, the chief opponent of free thought. It contains not one word against the pure teachings of Jesus, but unsparingly denounces their debasement into pernicious ecclesiastical systems that are ruinous to man's faith in his immortality and his God, and subversive of all moral restraint.
