Sinossi

In a world where children are increasingly sheltered and technology-dependent, teaching life skills has become more important than ever. Life skills are those practical abilities that help children navigate everyday tasks and challenges, both at home and in the wider world. They encompass a wide range of skills, from basic self-care and household chores to more complex social and emotional skills like communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.

Teaching children life skills is not just about preparing them for adulthood; it's about empowering them to be confident, capable, and resilient individuals. Children who learn life skills are more likely to succeed in school, build healthy relationships, make responsible decisions, and live fulfilling lives. They are better equipped to handle the challenges of growing up and are more likely to thrive as adults.

This comprehensive guide provides parents and caregivers with everything they need to know about teaching life skills to children. It covers a wide range of life skills, from basic self-care and household chores to more complex social and emotional skills. The book also includes practical tips and strategies for teaching these skills, as well as guidance on creating a supportive learning environment.

With this book, you will learn how to:

* Teach your children essential life skills, from basic self-care to complex social and emotional skills
* Create a supportive learning environment where your children feel safe to make mistakes and learn from their experiences
* Encourage your children to take initiative and develop a sense of independence
* Help your children build resilience and perseverance

Practicing New Worlds explores how principles of emergence, adaptation, iteration, resilience, transformation, interdependence, decentralization, and fractalization can shape organizing toward a world without the violence of surveillance, police, prisons, jails, or cages of any kind, in which we collectively have everything we need to survive and thrive.

Drawing on decades of experience as an abolitionist organizer, policy advocate, and litigator in movements for racial, gender, economic, and environmental justice and the principles articulated by adrienne maree brown in Emergent Strategy: Shaping Change, Changing Worlds, Ritchie invites us to think beyond traditional legislative and policy change to create more possibilities for survival and resistance in the midst of the ongoing catastrophes of racial capitalism—and the cataclysms to come. Rooted in analysis of current abolitionist practices and interviews with on-the-ground organizers resisting state violence, building networks to support people in need of abortion care, and nurturing organizations and convergences that can grow transformative cities and movements, Practicing New Worlds takes listeners on a journey of learning, unlearning, experimentation, and imagination to dream the worlds we long for into being.

    State of the Union 1983

The 1983 State of the Union address, delivered January 25, 1983, focuses on “what we can do together -- not as Republicans and Democrats, but as Americans -- to make tomorrow's America happy and prosperous at home, strong and respected abroad, and at peace in the world.”
Reagan praises a bipartisan proposal to save social security. He blames deficits on domestic spending and not on defense spending or tax cuts. A four-part plan is proposed to reduce the deficit: first, a federal spending freeze; second, reducing fraud and waste in programs such as food stamps; third, reductions in defense spending; and fourth, a future tax increase but only if Congress approves the spending freeze.
Reagan proposes the Employment Act of 1983 to provide training for the long-term unemployed. Educational reforms are proposed to promote math and science and tax credits for parents who send their children to private or religiously affiliated schools. Many other reforms relating to port modernization, women’s rights, civil rights, crime, agriculture, job training, health care, and technology are proposed.
In the international arena, we export over 20 percent of our industrial production and 40 percent of our farm produce. As the leader of the West, “America must be an unrelenting advocate of free trade.” While pursuing arms reduction with the Soviet Union, Reagan insists that agreements be verifiable, noting “the overwhelming evidence of Soviet violations of international treaties”.
Reagan asserts that “America is on the mend” and asks Congress “to make government a help, not a hindrance to our people in the challenging but promising days ahead.”

  • Mythical Women - The Powerful Female Figures of Mythology - cover

    Mythical Women - The Powerful...

Throughout history, myths have played a crucial role in shaping cultures, beliefs, and societal values. Among these myths, female figures hold a particularly powerful and diverse presence, ranging from benevolent creators to fearsome destroyers, wise protectors to cunning tricksters. Mythical women embody complex archetypes that reflect both admiration and fear, highlighting their influence across different civilizations. Whether as goddesses, warriors, enchantresses, or tragic heroines, these figures have left an indelible mark on mythology and continue to shape modern perspectives on femininity and power.

One of the most striking aspects of mythical women is their duality. Many goddesses and legendary figures are revered for their nurturing qualities while also possessing a fierce and destructive side. In Greek mythology, Demeter represents the life-giving force of agriculture, yet her grief over her daughter Persephone’s abduction brings about the harshness of winter. Similarly, in Hindu mythology, Kali embodies both maternal protection and unrelenting destruction. This dual nature reflects society’s evolving understanding of women—not as one-dimensional figures but as complex individuals capable of immense strength and resilience.

Symbolism plays a key role in how these figures are perceived. Mythical women are often linked to natural forces, such as the moon, water, and fertility, reinforcing their connection to life and renewal. At the same time, they can embody chaos and transformation, disrupting the status quo to bring about necessary change. Figures like Medusa, once a beautiful priestess turned into a monster, and Lilith, a rebellious first woman in Jewish folklore, demonstrate how female power can be both feared and demonized. These stories reveal underlying cultural anxieties about female independence and strength, themes that persist in literature and media today.

Stalking the Atomic City - Life...

    Markiyan Kamysh

Since the Chornobyl nuclear disaster in April 1986, the area remains a toxic, forbidden wasteland. The zone has become a place for meditation at the edge of geography where you can lose yourself. As with all dangerous places, this terra incognita attracts a wild assortment of adventurers who climb over the barbed wire illegally to witness the aftermath of catastrophe in the flesh. Breaking the law here is a pilgrimage: a metamodern sacred experience that coexists with thrash.

Markiyan Kamysh, whose father worked as an on-site disaster liquidator of Chornobyl, works as a "stalker," guiding people who dare to venture into the disaster area for thrills. Kamysh tells us about thieves who hide in the abandoned buildings, the policemen who chase them, and the romantic utopists who have built families here, even as deadly toxic waste lingers in the buildings, playgrounds, and streams.

More than extraordinary guide to this alien world, Kamysh writes with a singular style that is both brash and bold, conferring an understated elegance to this dystopian reality. Stalking the Atomic City is a haunting account of what total autonomy could mean in our growingly fractured world.
