These young people, filled with dreams and aspirations, navigate a complex landscape of challenges and opportunities, shaping their lives in the crucible of urban living.

This book offers a comprehensive exploration of the urban youth experience, delving into the challenges they face and the interventions that can help them thrive. Drawing on research and real-life stories, the book provides a nuanced understanding of the issues that affect urban youth, including poverty, crime, education, health, and social services. It also highlights the importance of family, community, and mentorship in shaping the lives of young people.

Through the lens of ten thought-provoking chapters, the book examines the impact of poverty on health and well-being, the challenges of accessing social services, the importance of digital literacy, and the power of youth voice. It also explores the role of schools, law enforcement, and juvenile justice in shaping the lives of urban youth.

This book is more than just an academic treatise; it is a call to action, urging readers to work together to create a brighter future for urban youth. It highlights the importance of investing in communities, supporting families, and empowering young people to reach their full potential. There is one human mentioned in the Quran more than any other: Moses. Why is it that the Jewish prophet dominates the Islamic scripture? Because he is the role model for Muhammad, Islam's own prophet. Because Islam, just like Christianity, is deeply intertwined with Judaism—although surprisingly little attention has been given to this fascinating connection between the two religions.

Author and journalist Mustafa Akyol takes listeners on a theological and historical walk through that much-neglected side of the Abrahamic triangle: the Judeo-Islamic tradition. Using Moses's presence in the Quran as a jumping-off point, Akyol explores the first historical encounter between Muslims and Jews, the creative symbiosis and mutual enrichment that occurred between the two belief systems in medieval times, and the modern emergence, development, and perception of the two religions.

At a time of bitter conflict in the Middle East, The Islamic Moses dives into the older, deeper, and often unexpectedly brighter story of Jews and Muslims. Listeners of any background will be surprised by the common historical and theological ground that exists between the two religions, and will come away with a better understanding of both.

Those who had decoded and seen the Japanese communications in early December 1941 would not be surprised when they heard about an attack on December 7, 1941. They would, however, be astonished when they heard where that attack took place. Posted on the other side of the world, it was early on the morning of December 8 in the Philippines when American general Douglas MacArthur received news of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor hours earlier. With that, it could only be a matter of time before the Japanese attacked the Philippines.
While the Battle of the Coral Sea is not as well known as other battles across the Pacific, it set a precedent by pitting enemy aircraft carriers against each other, a battle in which the rival navies themselves never sighted each other or fired a gun at each other. Instead, the fighting was done with the carriers’ aircraft, something that would become more common over time and would result in decisive actions at places like Midway just months later. Furthermore, while it was in a sense a tactical victory for the Japanese, it would end up helping blunt their aggressive push east in the Pacific, making it a crucial strategic victory for the Allies.
By the time the Battle of Midway was over, the defeat was so devastating that it was actually kept secret from all but the highest echelons of the Japanese government. Along with the loss of hundreds of aircraft and over 3,000 men killed, the four Japanese aircraft carriers lost, when compared to America’s one lost carrier, was critical considering America’s huge shipbuilding superiority. However, the Battle of Midway could also have easily turned out differently. Japan began the battle with more carriers, more and better aircraft, and more experienced crews than the Americans, and if the battle of the Coral Sea was any indication, the two sides had irrefutable proof of the dominance of the aircraft carrier in the Pacific.

"He who controls the spice controls the universe." Frank Herbert's Dune saga is the epic story of Paul, son of Duke Leto Atreides, and heir to the massive fortune promised by the desert planet Arrakis and its vast reservoirs of a drug called "spice." To control the spice, Paul and his mother Jessica, a devotee of the pseudo-religious Bene Gesserit order, must find their place in the culture of the desert-dwelling Fremen of Arrakis. Paul must contend with both the devious rival House Harkonnen and the gargantuan desert sandworms—the source of the spice. The future of the Imperium depends upon one young man who will need to lead a new jihad to control the universe.

Dune and Philosophy recruits twenty-three philosophers to sift wisdom from Frank Herbert's Duniverse, including the first of an expected series of films following Paul "Muad'Dib" Atreides and his descendants, captivatingly brought to the big screen in 2021. Substantial yet accessible chapters address philosophical questions including:

    ● Is it morally right to create a savior?

    ● Would interplanetary travel change human nature?

    ● In conflict, how can you stay light years ahead of your opponents?

Do you ever feel like you're just not good enough, smart enough, or talented enough in certain areas? Do these beliefs keep you from seeking out new opportunities or challenges, because you're afraid of failing? If so, you may be suffering from a "fixed mindset." In contrast, a "growth mindset" is the belief that you can increase your ability or develop your attributes—that you can adapt and learn from your mistakes. But how do you cultivate a growth mindset?

The Growth Mindset Workbook offers essential skills grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to change the way you think about your own talents and abilities. Based on the core principles outlined in Mindset by Carol Dweck, this workbook will help you shed unhelpful and self-limiting attitudes and beliefs, and replace them with a growth mindset that can increase resiliency, boost self-confidence, and form the foundation of a meaningful, values-based life.

The most important thing to remember is that a growth mindset can be learned, and doing so can positively impact how you think, feel, and act. If you're ready to say yes to life's challenges and maximize your potential, this step-by-step guide can show you the way.

“In this hilarious, candid, and thought-provoking memoir, [Groskop] explains how she used lessons from Russian classics to understand herself better.” ―Gretchen Rubin, #1 New York Times–bestselling author

As Viv Groskop knows from personal experience, everything that has ever happened to a person has already happened in the Russian classics: from not being sure what to do with your life (Anna Karenina), to being hopelessly in love with someone who doesn’t love you back (Turgenev’s A Month in the Country), or being socially anxious about your appearance (all of Chekhov’s work). In The Anna Karenina Fix, a sort of literary self-help memoir, Groskop mines these and other works, as well as the lives of their celebrated creators, and her own experiences as a student of Russian, to answer the question “How should you live your life?”

This is a charming and fiercely intelligent book, a love letter to Russian literature, and an exploration of the answers these writers found to life’s questions.
