Sinossi

Embark on a captivating journey to the frontiers of the Roman Empire, where danger, opportunity, and cultural exchange converged. In this comprehensive and engaging book, we delve into the lives of the soldiers, traders, and settlers who dared to venture beyond the empire's secure borders.

From the windswept plains of North Africa to the dense forests of Germania, Rome's frontiers were a crucible of conflict and cooperation. The Roman army, a formidable force of discipline and strength, stood guard against barbarian incursions and maintained order within the provinces. Yet, beyond the military camps, a vibrant world of trade and cultural exchange flourished.

The frontiers were not merely lines on a map; they were spaces where different cultures collided and mingled, shaping the course of history. From the bustling marketplaces of the East to the remote outposts of Britain, Rome's frontiers were a melting pot of languages, religions, and traditions.

We will explore the challenges and triumphs that shaped this ancient civilization. We will uncover the complex relationships between Rome and its neighbors, from the fierce Berber tribes of North Africa to the nomadic Parthians of the East. Through this journey, we will gain a deeper understanding of the Roman Empire and its enduring legacy.

This book is an essential read for anyone interested in ancient history, military strategy, or the dynamics of cultural exchange. With vivid storytelling and meticulous research, it brings to life the vibrant and fascinating world of Rome's frontiers.

The Iranian Plateau has an extensive history dating back to 100,000 BCE!
Today, Persia is known as the country of Iran, but long ago, Persia was once home to various nomadic tribes. It saw the rise of many empires and dynasties. The Assyrians fell to the Medians, who paved the way for the emergence of the Achaemenid Empire, one of the greatest empires in ancient history.
Throughout history, Persia made great contributions to the language and culture of the region. Nomadic movements and changing empires meant it was a hub of continuous cultural exploration and development. The Persians established and spread new ways of government, administration, and currency. The region is also the birthplace of Zoroastrianism and new ways of thinking and art.
The rise of the Achaemenid Empire is one of the most influential periods in world history. With Cyrus the Great and Darius I, the empire rose to unrivaled heights, gathering vast wealth and territories. Learn how this great empire declined and the role Alexander the Great played in it.
This book offers an enthralling insight into the exciting and often bloody history of ancient Persia and the Persian Empire.

    Men of their time?
Jonathan Edwards, John Wesley, and George Whitefield were the three most prominent early evangelicals—and all three were deeply compromised on the issue of slavery. Edwards and Whitefield both kept slaves themselves, and Wesley failed to speak out against slavery until near the end of his life.
In Ownership, Sean McGever tells the true story of these men's relationships to slavery: a story that has too often been passed over or buried in scholarly literature. Laying out the dominant attitudes among Christians toward slavery at the time, McGever sets these "men of their times" in their own context, inviting us to learn how these shapers of American evangelicalism contributed to the tragic history of racism in America. He also explores how Christians finally began to recognize that slavery, which they'd excused for most of Christian history, is actually wrong. It's a story that white evangelicals must wrestle with today.
Ownership is more than a book of history. It's an invitation to examine our own legacies and to understand—and take ownership of—both our heritage and our own part in the story.

On his death in the autumn of 2006, Milton Friedman was lauded as "the grandmaster of free-market economic theory in the postwar era" by the New York Times and "the most influential economist of the second half of the 20th century" by the Economist. Winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1976, Friedman was both a highly respected economist and a prominent public intellectual, the leader of a revolution in economic and political thought that argued robustly in favor of virtues of free markets and laissez-faire policies.

Milton Friedman on Economics: Selected Papers collects a variety of Friedman's papers on topics in economics that were originally published in the Journal of Political Economy. Opening with Friedman's 1977 Nobel Lecture, the volume spans nearly the whole of his career, incorporating papers from as early as 1948 and as late as 1990. An excellent introduction to Friedman's economic thought, Milton Friedman will be essential for anyone tracing the course of twentieth-century economics and politics.
