Sinopse

The peaceful life of Massimo, brilliant musician, and his wife Paola, a successful cardiologist, is soon turned upside-down by bad news that will quickly upset their daily routine. The cycle of life and death, of light and darkness, of hope and sorrow are intertwined and deformed. The happiness of expecting twin girls turns into fear and courage, becomes a challenge: Paola’s pregnancy is a rare case, making fun of probability, statistics and medical knowledge. It’s up to him to fix everything, set up relationships, redefine boundaries, moderate words. But it’s a race against time, against the wounded pride of a man trying to get out of the maze he’s trapped in. Massimo, indeed, after a surprising and terrifying discovery, is no longer able to distinguish reality from illusion. Everything becomes ostensible, hiding the primordial deception. Who is going to pay for the choices made? And for how long?PUBLISHER: TEKTIME

'In the Kingdom of Fife, in the days of long ago, there lived an old man and his wife. The old man was a douce, quiet body, but the old woman was lightsome and flighty, and some of the neighbours were wont to look at her askance, and whisper to each other that they sorely feared that she was a Witch.'
Elizabeth W. Grierson tells the tale of the famous witches of Fife, and what happens when one's husband gets a little too curious... This short story is one of a compilation from Grierson's 'The Scottish Fairy Book', first published in 1910, and is read by Stephanie MacGaraidh.

In his seventh poetry collection, Jon Davis exhibits the range and mastery that is the result of fifty years of study, teaching, and practice. Above the Bejeweled City opens and closes with homages to Federico Garcia Lorca' s dream-struck ballad " Romance Soná mbulo." In between, he inhabits what the philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty calls the " inexplicable existence" that marks our passage here on Earth.

Part absurdist, part satirist, part tender correspondent, Davis writes in the slipstream of writers like Joyce, Beckett, Parra, and Plath. In an age that calls out for hopeful verse, Above the Bejeweled City offers, instead, a treatise on defeat and despair— and on how letting go is a way of holding on.

'Three options, as I see it – they'll kill it off entirely, you'll let it die of natural causes, I'm going to make it live again.'
When the owner of a Sheffield scissor manufacturer dies, the future of the factory site falls into uncertainty. Can it be reborn as a fashionable music venue, converted into luxury apartments, or somehow reinvigorated so the old business can survive?
There's more than just money or bricks and mortar at stake. It's about knowing where you fit in the world – knowing that somewhere there's still a place for you.
Fresh, funny and heartfelt, Rock / Paper / Scissors are three intricately interwoven plays by Chris Bush about family, heritage and legacy. They were first performed simultaneously with the same cast moving between three theatres in Sheffield – the Crucible, the Lyceum and the Studio – as part of Sheffield Theatres' fiftieth birthday celebrations in 2022.
While the three plays can be enjoyed separately, they also offer a uniquely rewarding opportunity for any company looking to take on the challenge of staging them together.

Aristotle's Poetics is best known for its definition and analysis of tragedy and comedy, but it also applies to truth and beauty as they are manifested in the other arts. In our age, when the natural and social sciences have dominated the quest for truth, it is helpful to consider why Aristotle claimed: "poetry is more philosophical and more significant than history."

Like so many other works by Aristotle, the Poetics has dominated the way we have thought about all forms of dramatic performance in Europe and America ever since. The essence of poetry lies in its ability to transcend the particulars of everyday experience and articulate universals, not merely what has happened but what might happen and what ought to happen.
