Sinossi

"Water Survival Skills" offers a comprehensive exploration of water procurement, purification, and conservation techniques essential for survival situations. This practical guide uniquely bridges the gap between complex hydrological science and real-world application, making it invaluable for outdoor enthusiasts and emergency preparedness practitioners.

Through a carefully structured approach, the book transforms scientific concepts into actionable strategies that could prove life-saving when traditional water sources become unavailable. The book progresses logically from understanding basic water sources and geological formations to advanced topics in water management and long-term sustainability.

Readers learn crucial skills such as identifying safe water sources in various environments, constructing filtration systems, and implementing effective conservation measures. What sets this guide apart is its integration of traditional knowledge with modern technological solutions, supported by evidence from wilderness experts, military training programs, and humanitarian organizations.

Each chapter combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications, featuring detailed illustrations, step-by-step guides, and real-world case studies that reinforce key concepts through hands-on learning. The book maintains a strong environmental focus while addressing current debates in water purification technology and sustainable practices.

This is the audiobook of Part 1 of my memoir, My Amazing 35 Year Journey Abroad. I open the book at a time in my life when I was living in an unheated garage in the dead of winter in Chicago and that came about because of my alcoholism. The year was 1981 and I was 28 years old. By this time in my life I had been kicked out of college, fired from 2 jobs including being fired by my father for crashing my company car drunk, divorced once with another one on the way, and I was broke and jobless. I would then pick myself up and brush myself off and get hired as a stockbroker by Dean Witter Reynolds. I would then blow that great opportunity by, you guessed it, abusing alcohol, and after working for 3 different brokerage houses, I would then quit drinking, start my modeling career, take an inadvertent 1 week ski trip to Austria, and then decide not to get on that return flight to Chicago, but instead would take a train from innsbruck to Nice, France where I would work as a model and actor, and then after a few months in Nice, I would move to Paris where I would live for 6 or so months, and then because of a suggestion from a photographer during a job there, I would end up flying to Singapore where I would work as a model and actor there, then after about 6 months there, I would end up moving to NYC to study acting and work as an actor there, and during my day job, I worked as a skate guard at Rockefeller Center where I would work with LIberace during his show there celebrating the skating rinks 50th birthday and there are photos in the book to prove it. Then from NYC I would move to Hong Kong where I would work as a featured actor in 4 movies, including a role in Kickboxer. I would then move to Bangkok, Thailand where I would start my nudie photography career and become the most prolifice photographer of naked Asian girls in the world. It is now 2024 and I am still in Thailand, retired here at the age of 70.

Unlock the hidden rhythms of Russian conversation with A Language Learner’s Guide to Russian Idioms, narrated by Ernest Timkin and crafted by linguist Dana Levina. This audiobook isn’t just about memorizing phrases—it’s a cultural passport, revealing how Russians weave humor, history, and wisdom into everyday speech. Imagine transforming awkward pauses into confident exchanges by knowing when to say someone’s “counting crows” (считать ворон) instead of daydreaming, or calling out empty promises as “noodles hung on ears” (вешать лапшу на уши). Whether you’re a traveler aiming to navigate local markets without getting “led by the nose” (водить за нос), a student tired of “thumbing wooden blocks” (бить баклуши) instead of studying, or a professional striving to “take the bull by the horns” (брать быка за рога) in meetings, these idioms bridge the gap between textbook Russian and authentic dialogue. Each expression unfolds with vivid context: Learn why “walking on heels” (ходить по пятам) means relentless pursuit, how “sitting on needles” (сидеть как на иголках) captures nail-biting anxiety, and when to “keep your ear sharp” (держать ухо востро) in tricky situations. Perfect for learners craving cultural fluency, this guide turns idioms from curiosities into tools, helping you decode films, literature, and casual chats with ease. Dive in—before you know it, you’ll be swapping stale translations for phrases that make Russians lean in and smile. Удачи! (Good luck!)

Lastly, her unusual grasp for ´Portuguese quaintness´ also makes this book worth buying.” David Peres Rebelo

Angkor Wat, in northwest Cambodia, is the world's largest spiritual structure in the shape of a temple complex, with an acreage of 401 +344 acres. A quincunx of 4 towers surrounds a center spire that rises up to a height of 65 meters (213 feet) in the air in the temple's heart. The temple is separated into 3 rectangle-shaped galleries, each of which rises over the one before it. It's surrounded by a 3.6-kilometer-long (24-mile-long) external wall and a five-kilometer-long (three-mile-long) moat.
The temple was built as the state temple for the Khmer Empire at the demand of Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in Yaodharapura (, contemporary Angkor), the Khmer Empire's capital. It was constructed in the early 12th century to honor the Hindu god Vishnu, but by the end of the century, it had been changed to a Buddhist temple.
Angkor Wat is a fascinating structure, dating back hundreds of years, and it’s impressive how much of it has remained intact.
